Introduction

I am 72, retired but live a very active life as a Chairman / Director / Trustee of a charity and an associated trading company. I am a widower with three married daughters and four grandchildren.

I have been at DVCC for little over a year. Since that time I have *lost around a stone in weight.

What Inspired Your Transformation?

I was not concerned about my weight as I did not feel over weight, just that I had a flabby tummy and after a major heart op a few years ago had ceased exercising. I was also getting over the shock of losing my wife and wanted to have a fit body that might not put off meeting new friends.

What Were Your Concerns Before Joining DVCC?

My concerns about joining DVCC were the obvious ones as a pensioner, could I afford a personal one to one trainer, or should I just go to a bog standard gym?

I saw a tweet from DVCC and thought they looked like fit guys, maybe I could give their outfit a try, which I did, and it worked. My first session was with Mark and we went through what we would be doing, how a change in nutrition would support a fitness programme and how the two would be complimentary, My motivation was to *lose any flab I had and to put on muscle so that I would be fit enough to keep old age signs at bay! My motivation now is to stay at my present fitness level or even to improve it.

What Has Been Your Biggest Challenge?

My biggest challenge was to stick to the nutrition and give up some of the sugary things that I enjoyed eating. I overcame that my drawing up a weekly meals menu (including snacks) programme which I then discussed with my team trainer.

I balance my work life by incorporating physical excersion such as working the locks on the river at Bedford, doing gardening, and having a weekly fitness one to one session at DVCC in Milton Keynes, although initially I needed two sessions a week to get me going!

Do you feel intimidated by normal gyms?

The big box impersonal gyms leave you feeling awkward, and lacking motivation to lose weight and get fit.

We know it's important. We just don't know where to start.
