5-2_diet_v_DVCCIt is important to distinguish what the aim is when embarking on any form of exercise and nutrition program.

I will assume that if you are reading this your main aim is fat loss and physical transformation. I would also add that I will assume another of your aims is health.

5:2 Diet

  • Supposedly based on “intermittent fasting” ,however, a more accurate description would be “intermittent dieting”
  • Does not follow the “studied” benefits of intermittent fasting, which involves relatively short periods of no food intake.
  • Actually based on very low calorie eating (similar to Slimfast, The Cambridget Diet etc) which will drop weight in the short term but actually has been proven to lower your bodies metabolism so that weight loss stops and actually goes backwards.
  • Not a healthy way of approaching food due to the fact you are able to eat any foods you desire when not “fasting”

Encourages overeating due to the two days of very little food consumption which results in fat gain in the long term.

  • No exercise will mean that muscle tone will be lost and your metabolism will drop.
  • Not sustainable as it does not focus on incorporating fat loss “habits”.
  • Intermittent fasting in its actual pure form has also been shown to be possibly detrimental to females.
  • Only focuses on weight loss which means muscle loss will occur. Muscle loss will drop your metabolism and mean that you are far more likely to put the weight back on.
