"I came for a gym, but found loads of new friends!" - Tony's Journey at The DVCC

Meeting people in this modern world is both easier and harder than ever before, it is all too easy to make virtual friends, but when was the last time you did something fantastic with a group of new people who you just met in person?

After thinking he was just looking for a gym, Tony quickly discovered that instead of just finding a place to stay fit and active, he has found a community of like-minded individuals who have quickly become some of his closest friends…
  
 

“My name is Anthony, I'm a mechanic. I was actually quite lazy, really quite tubby especially through school, and got picked on a bit for that.

But got out of school, sort of found my confidence, and then that was sort of where fitness came into it.I came and started training with people, the trainers especially are really helpful and friendly, sort of developing friendships with them, but also the other clients.Training with them, become quite good friends with them We've also all met up and done like a skydive together!

So I put it out on a group chat, and everyone was like "Yeah! Let's do it!” I was absolutely terrified!I'm terrified of heights, so it was the most stupid thing that I have ever suggested to do, you know!

I got in that plane and I was terrified,Jen, another one of the clients she was asking  "Are you okay? Are you okay?" And I wasn’t! But I was saying "Yeah, yeah!""I'm fine, I'm fine!" but as soon as you are out that door, it's the best feeling in the world! I would do it again!

It's quite weird, I came for a gym, but found loads of new friends, you know! So for someone that has never been into fitness or feels that they are too far gone, that is rubbish.I understand what it feels like to be on the back foot with regards to fitness, confidence, everything like that.

But once you are here and through the door, you have a community here that supports you.I was very sceptical, and I jumped, and I'm so glad that I did!”
