The secrets to MINIMISING weight gain on holiday

You want to have a good time on holiday…And you should! You have deserved this time to yourself and it is time to let your hair down and enjoy yourself.

That being said, one the the most common times that most of us gain weight is when we are on holiday. You don’t want to have to train for hours and hours a day and don’t want it to be the first thing in your mind; but there are a few tips that you can do to help reduce that fat that you may usually gain whilst you are away.

1) ALCOHOL.

Chances are, because you are on holiday, you will be drinking a little more than usual. This is fine, however if you are looking to watch your weight, try and stick to clear alcohols with a non-sugary mixer; something like a gin and tonic or vodka with lime and soda would be a very good option.

Also remember to stay hydrated whilst drinking! By drinking one glass of water with whatever alcoholic drink you have, you will be be reducing your chances of the dreaded hangover and because of the amount of liquids you will be consuming, you will be consuming less alcoholic drinks and thus less empty calories.

2)  BREAKFAST.

The best way to start your day should always be a protein and fat breakfast. We always recommend this to all our clients anyway; however, while you are on holiday it tends to be the meal you have most control over.

Most hotels will have some kind of buffet option or wide selection of breakfasts, having your eggs and bacon  is a great example or smoked salmon and avocado, because you’re not usually on the go straight away, it will mean that you are able to burn more body fat for fuel.

3) TRAINING... SORT OF.

Training?! Whilst on holiday?! No, we haven’t gone insane.

Your holiday is YOUR time to relax, we would not recommend going to the gym, having a hard session and being exhausted for the rest the day. Instead, just try incorporate some light body weight exercises into your day.

Some great examples might be: Squats/Squat jumps, Press ups, Burpees etc. You can find a selection of our own home workouts here: https://the-dvcc.helpscoutdocs.com/category/670-home-workouts

Also don’t forget about swimming! If you’re somewhere hot and have a pool available to you, it doesn’t have to be just for lounging! Essentially, anything different that will spice up your training and ensure that you’re not going to put on too much fat while you’re away.

Other than that, have a fantastic time and enjoy some well deserved time away!
