Today we have a question from Alice..

Alice asked: What is the difference between an intolerance and an allergy and how can they affect weight loss?

Symptoms-of-food-allergy.jpgThe main difference between an allergy and an intolerance is the severity in which your body reacts. An allergy will create an immune system reaction which at times can be as severe as life-threatening.

However, an intolerance is a much less severe reaction which tends to affect the digestive system or result in symptoms such as irritable bowel syndrome, fatigue and asthma.

Food intolerances should therefore be taken very seriously and identifying them can be key to optimal body composition. When focusing on losing weight having a fast and efficient metabolism is key and food intolerance's can actually slow this down.

Therefore, quality of food should be considered. This is because, many processed foods will contain inflammatory foods and are contaminated with chemicals. These foods interfere with proper gut function and therefore slow down your metabolism resulting in ineffective digestion.

mzhwuyngjt7mzmrjmliw.jpgThe most common foods that cause intolerance are milk, wheat, eggs, yeast and nuts. Taking on inflammatory foods or intolerant foods will create further reaction in relation to bloating and fluid retention.

This is a further sign of improper digestion and can be a reason for weight gain.
What is worse is that food we are intolerant to actually can be the ones that we crave the most and giving into these cravings can have detrimental effects on our weight loss and health goals.

Taking on foods that we are intolerant to can also negatively effect energy levels and reduce the speed at which we burn calories. This is because these foods put a huge strain on the body through a bad immune response.

If these symptoms sound familiar then there is many ways in which you can identify an intolerance but at first I would consult your doctor as a simple blood test would identify this.

Many intolerances can be short term.

Therefore, once diagnosed with an intolerance you should eliminate these foods for a minimum of 6 weeks allowing for your gut to heal and regain health. From here you can then slowly re-introduce the foods causing inflammation and re-test your response.

This elimination and metabolic repair is the focus within the first part of the DVCC Metabolic Damage Solution Nutrition Protocol as we recognise the importance of reducing these harmful toxins within the body.

This is Ryan from the DVCC. Have a great day.
