Today we have a question from Jerimy..

Jerimy asked: What is the best oil for cooking with?

Great question, Jerimy. 

There are many different oils on the market. However, not all of them are to be used in the same way or for the same thing. Some oils should be avoided completely if possible.

20150320-cooking-olive-oil-vicky-wasik-3The main thing you want to look for is an oil which has a low smoke point for cooking. Oils with a low smoke point, like flaxseed oil, should never be used for cooking, flax seed would be better used on salads. 

Olive oil also has a low smoke point and should only be used for cooking at very low temperatures for short periods of time. Again, olive oil would be better on a salad and when not heated is a very healthy oil when at room temperature.

When you heat oils with a low smoke point they can become oxidised and toxic for your body. 

The best things to cook with for health and fat loss are unrefined, organic, coconut oil and grass fed butter. Coconut oil is full of anti-oxidative compounds which helps protect it from oxidation and degradation.

Coconut oil is of the best saturated fats you can enjoy for greater health and performance.
