Lucy Has Joined Many Fitness Facilities In The Past But With No Long Lasting Results. Find Out Why She Discovered The DVCC Was Different

Case Study, Nutrition, Weight loss

Josh: Hi guys, this is Josh from the DVCC and I am sat here with a client of DVCC Bedford, Lucy Wainwright, who has been a client here since November of last year.

Lucy_Wainwright_SpotlightIn that time, Lucy has achieved some great results and I would just like to share her story with you guys so you can learn and hopefully benefit from some of the things that have helped Lucy along her journey.

So, first of all Lucy, can you introduce yourself and give us your results of what you have achieved in the time you have been at the DVCC?

Lucy: I’m Lucy, I’ve been here since November like Josh said, and I have so far *lost 25.5lbs of body fat.

Josh: Awesome. First of all, I'd like to go back to before you were a client at the DVCC. How long were you concerned about your weight?

Lucy: Probably since I was a teenager, so quite a long time!

Josh: So a fairly long time then!

Lucy: I've never been a skinny person and I've never been a sporty person. So, gradually as I got older I put more and more weight on and then it got to the point where I thought I have had enough of this, I need to do something about it.

Josh: If you don't mind me asking, was there a trigger that made you think, right this is when I'm going to take action?

Lucy: I don’t know that there wasn't a trigger, it was just kind of I'm getting, you know, nearly on the wrong side of 35 now, so I thought I need to do something. If I'm going to do it, I need to do it now – well, before I get to be 40!

Josh: And how did your weight affect your *life back then?

Lucy: I just wasn't happy. I am quite a private person; I would stay at home rather than go out; I wasn't happy with the sort of clothes I was wearing and all that kind of thing really. I was just generally a bit miserable about how I was.

Josh: Did that carry over into social interactions, work interactions?

Lucy: I don't know, I guess I would withdraw myself rather than go out and do things.

Josh: Had you tried anything previously to *lose weight?

Lucy: I had joined gyms in the past, I would sign up for a year's membership; I would go in for the first month/two months and then it would start to drop off and I would lose interest. And then I wouldn't go back. And I would go on my own, so I would just do the running machine and all that sort of stuff, and it would just be rubbish.

Josh: So kind of doing your own thing then?

Lucy: Yes, doing my own thing, not really pushing myself, just doing it because I thought it was something I had to do to get fitter. So not really gaining anything like I've been gaining here.

Josh: Did you ever get anything in terms of results from doing that?

Lucy: I probably *lost half a *stone, maybe, but because then I wasn't consistent I didn't keep it off and I would put it back on again really.

Josh: How did that make you feel, going on the yoyo thing?

Lucy: I felt sort of defeatist, kind of, oh well I'm no good at this. I would just resign myself to not being any good at it, so let's just not do it, because it's too hard.

Josh: At what point did you stumble across the DVCC?

Lucy: I probably found your website about a year ago and I kept looking and thinking, they're doing good stuff with people. Then I'd listen to some of the stories from clients, interviews like this, and think they're actually changing people, I need to pluck up the courage to just go, and eventually I did!

New Call-to-action

Josh: Did you have any preconceptions about what the DVCC would be like?

Lucy: I don't know; I wasn't really sure what to expect; I don't think I did really. I thought I would see what it's like.

Josh: And how was it going back, I don't know if you remember, when you first stepped through the door?

Lucy: When I first stepped through the door I thought, this is different. There isn't the sort of running machines and all that sort of stuff here; it's weights, it's being told what exercises to do, being guided; very different to what I was expecting.

Josh: Did you have any obstacles that were in your way, barriers that would have stopped you committing?

Lucy: I don't think there were barriers, no. I remember my first meeting in here with you; we went through my goals and what I wanted to achieve and I signed on the dotted line and I'm still here!

Josh: Good, I like it! You have committed to the DVCC for a year; what has been the thing that has made you more consistent now, whereas you haven't been in the past?

Lucy: I enjoy it, I like coming here, I like seeing you guys. And it's something I do, it's just formed part of my routine and it's been quite easy to get it to be part of my routine. I just book my appointments; I finish work at 5.30 and come here for 6pm, I do the session, I go home. It just is part of what I do now.

Josh: Creature of habit, I like that. So, in terms of the Real You transformation process, do you have a favourite part?

Lucy: A favourite part?

Josh: I know, it's all so good!

Lucy_WainwrightLucy: It is all good; I like the strength training. I like the fact that I think when I first came in here I was doing squats with probably 7 or 8kgs and now I've moved up to 27.5! And those kind of things; I like that kind of thing.

Josh: Have you been setting yourself goals for the future?

Lucy: I would like to *lose a total of 40 lbs at least, so I can then buy myself a new car, that's my aim!

Josh: I like that! So everyone listening to this can hold you accountable and ask you next time they see you! Talk to us a little bit more about that goal.

Lucy: I think one of the things I said when we first set our goals, I wanted to *lose 20kgs, so that's roughly 40 lbs, so I've now rounded it up so it's 40 lbs. So I can then go and look and buy myself a new car.

Josh: Nice. If we see you driving around in a new car, we can all congratulate you on the 40 lbs of fat *loss then!

If you were to recommend the DVCC to a friend, what would you say to them?

Lucy: I would say if you really want to change yourself: mindset, body, everything - then you need to come along and join and they will all help you change yourself.

Josh: Did you expect it to work as well as it clearly has done for you?

Lucy: No, I didn't think I would get as far as I have, so I'm quite pleased.

Josh: Has it changed your mindset then?

Lucy: Definitely. I'm much more positive, I feel much calmer. Not that I thought I was not calm before, but I now feel calmer so things don't stress me out. I sleep better - everything has just generally better.

Josh: What kind of carry over benefits has training at the DVCC had to your everyday *life then?

Lucy: It's made me more focused; it's made me think about what I'm putting into my body, so if I eat that it's going to have a knock on effect, so I choose not to eat that; I'll eat something better instead. So I eat more green vegetables, I eat leaner protein, I don't eat so many carbs any more; my diet has changed completely.

Josh: Nice - and in terms of how you feel on a day to day basis?

Lucy: Much more positive, calmer, much more positive about me and not so self conscious.

Josh: In closing, if you could give any advice to someone who is in the same situation as you were previous to joining the DVCC, who is perhaps listening to these interviews and has tried diets before and not had any success, what advice would you give to them?

Lucy: I would say you need to take action; you need to make that first step. If they come and see you guys, you will help them along the way. If you don't try it, you don't know.

Josh: Thank you very much for being so open there Lucy; I'm sure this interview will help a lot of people out there. So, this has been Josh and Lucy from the DVCC; thanks again for listening guys, we'll be back soon.
