Today we have a question from Shane. Shane asked, “How can I increase my metabolism?”

Great question!

Marcus-2Firstly, lifting weights will help you raise your metabolism. For every pound of muscle you build, you can burn an extra 50 calories a day just maintaining that muscle; this means that if you build 5 lbs of muscle, you’re burning an extra 250 calories a day just sitting down watching TV, so that’s great.

Secondly, stay hydrated. Adequate hydration will result in more fats being used for fuel while you exercise, and it will help aid your digestion, which will in turn increase your metabolism.

Also, make sure you are getting enough sleep. Under or over resting can lower your metabolism, so you want to make sure you are getting at least 7 to 9 hours of sleep every single night: not too much less and not too much more.

Drinking natural green tea and adding cayenne pepper and other natural spices to your diet will also help raise your metabolic rate and burn more body fats.

So, our question for you is:

What spices do you like putting in your food?

This has been Lewis at the DVCC; as always, have a great day.
