Fitness

bolog

DVCC Boxing Conditioning is on it's way! You might be wondering what boxing can actually do for your fitness journey? How is it actually going to help you reach your goals and why should you get involved?

That’s why we’ve collated the top 10 reasons why boxing fitness IS going to help you reach your goals and see the results that YOU WANT!

So whether you fancy yourself as the new Anthony Joshua, or have never considered trying boxing before, there will be something here for everyone…

1. Fat Burning

Just like High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) that you can find during our team training sessions and Signature Metabolic Finishers, boxing predominantly revolves around short, bursts of movement.

When you are performing these kinds of movements, you end up burning off a tonne of calories during the session and for hours afterwards. Typical cardio exercise does not have this post training calorie burning effect!

2. Increased Muscle Tone

Have you ever seen an untoned boxer? No! Obviously these guys and girls are professionals, but the science is there! Due to fast repetitive actions, boxing is amazing for helping produced toned, taut, muscles. Whereas in strength training, we are looking for slow, heavy lifting to build strength, boxing is all about speed and power, so you’ll be using your muscles in a completely different way!

3. Build Strong Bones and Ligaments

Just like all sessions at The DVCC, resistance training strengthens your bones and reduces the progression of osteoporosis.

In boxing, focus pads and punching bags provide that resistance and combine it with your own bodyweight. This means that your joints, tendons and ligaments all have to adapt to working against resistance.

4. Stress Relief

Having a rough day at work? Let that stress out! Just like any physical activity helps your body release those endorphins, boxing has that added bonus of being a little more ‘physical’ shall we say. There’s nothing more satisfying than literally punching away your stresses and having a clear head

5. Greater Confidence and Self-Esteem

It’s a fact, boxing is a cool sport. The better you get, the more confident you’ll get! The better your technique, the more force you can put into your punch. The noise you hear when you land a strong, accurate punch right on the sweet spot of the focus pad is pure bliss!

6. Supercharge Your Energy Levels!

Boxing requires your muscles to contract repeatedly which can very quickly cause fatigue surprisingly quickly. With regular training and boxing sessions, your muscles can keep contracting for longer durations without getting tired, allowing you to train harder for longer and ultimately burn more calories.

7. Tone That Core!

Your core muscles are the foundation of blood flow and balance in your body. The movement required in boxing fitness requires lots of fast rotational movements and these core muscles will develop to allow you to punch hard without losing your balance.

8. Increased Strength and Power!

Sure, it’s not all about who can hit the hardest, but that doesn’t mean you won’t be hitting harder each time! Boxing really is the ultimate full body workout. Punching doesn’t just come from your arms, as any boxer will tell you, a REAL punch uses your legs, hips, glutes, core, obliques, back, shoulders, chest and arms.

9. Increased Cardiovascular Fitness

It’s not about who can hit the hardest! Boxing is an incredibly fast paced sport where your entire body is always moving. Whether it’s ducking, dipping, punching or weaving, there is no time for resting!

All of this movement forces your heart and lungs to work overtime, pumping blood all around your body - the best part? Whereas your body is able to adjust to activities such as running, because you are always getting faster and improving your technique, its much harder for your body to adjust, so you’ll always be improving!

10. Improved Co-ordination and Body Awareness

Moving lots of body parts at the same time makes your brain work overtime. You have to think about how your body moves and where each arm and leg is positioned. This increased awareness of your body is the number 1 way help improve your co-ordination and alertness!
