Always Hated Exercise? So Did David,..But Now It Has Become A Part Of His life And He Has Transformed His Physique

Health, Case Study, Nutrition, Exercise, Weight loss, Diet, Body Fat

Greg: This is Greg at DVCC Northampton; I’m joined today by David Watson. So David, how long have you been with the DVCC now?

David_WatsonDavid: It’s just 6 months since I started; I’ve been coming since February this year.

Greg: Good. And what are the results you’ve had since you joined the DVCC?

David: I have *lost around 10% body fat; gone from 25% down to about 15%. That means I’ve *lost a *stone of body fat and gained about 5lbs of muscle.

Greg: Nice, very well done! So David, can you recall what initially brought you to the DVCC?

David: Yes I can. There was an article in the local newspaper, advertising the 6 week programme; so being pathologically lazy, I thought: 6 weeks, *lose a bit of weight, get it over and done with and back to normal.

Greg: So it was only your initial intention to do the initial 6 week period, was it?

David: Yes.

Greg: What specific problem did you want to solve at the time you first came to see us?

David: It was weight *loss. I remember describing to Mark that I was wanting to be a bit less wobbly please!

Greg: Is that something that you had looked to achieve over a period of time before joining?

David: Yes, off and on. I just very gradually gained weight over maybe 5 or more years and it got to a point after Christmas where it was either *lose some weight or buy bigger trousers, and I’m quite tight, so…

Greg: Previous to starting at the DVCC, what did you find your main obstacles were that prevented you from solving that problem?

David: I never had any interest or motivation in exercise, so that wasn’t really an option. I used to go swimming occasionally and then I used to pretend that I went swimming but didn’t really go. My diet was never bad but I ate out a lot and I drank far too much alcohol, or too frequently.

Greg: So the exercise thing, in your whole life was that something that you didn’t really enjoy that much?

David: Never – I’m not at all competitive, never enjoyed exercise, I’ve never been bothered.

Greg: Would you say you enjoy it a little bit more now?

David: Yes – it took me a long time to admit that, but yes!

Greg: Good. You mentioned swimming, but what specifically had you tried before to solve your problems, any diets or any other exercises at all apart from the swimming you tried?

David: I would occasionally do the first two weeks of the Atkins diet and lose quite a few pounds, and then put it all back on in the course of a long weekend or something.

Greg: So you would *lose some weight and then after a few days of going back to how you were you’d just put it all back on again, so it wasn’t very maintainable at all.

David: No, not a bit.

Greg: So what convinced you that the Real You transformation process would be different?

David-1David: As I said, initially I it was a 6 week programme so I thought I can commit to that and I decided that I wouldn’t like it, I’d probably be quite huffy and cross about it but I’d just make myself come, do as I was told and *lose the weight and then that would be fine.

But, since coming I’ve obviously enjoyed it, so much that I’ve joined for a year. I’m quite good at following rules, so the metabolic damage solution side of things I’ve quite enjoyed. I like cooking, I like thinking about what I’m going to eat, what I can eat, and so applying a set of rules to that I’ve not found a problem.

Greg: Good. Maybe before with the nutrition, not having those rules in place means that you didn’t stick to a very good nutrition plan, so having those rules would help you do that.

David: Yes.

Greg: How has your *life changed since you started the Real You transformation process?

David: Lots of things really; talking to you today made me realise that waking up in the morning is a different experience. I don’t wait for the alarm clock, I’m usually awake before the alarm and get out of bed quite happily to go to work; I don’t reset the alarm clock. I eat breakfast, which I haven’t eaten since I was a teenager. Now I’m looking forward; I go to bed thinking about what I’m going to have for breakfast the next day. I just feel a lot more content, happy - and I feel good.

Greg: When you have more energy and enthusiasm to get out of bed in the morning, it sets you up for the whole day, right?

David: Yes, and lots of little things as well. I drink one cup of coffee a day instead of three or four; I don’t put a sweetener in it any more, so I’ve cut that out. It’s made a lot of difference.

Greg: Good. Could you give me an example of something which has happened since starting with us that you thought might not be possible before starting with the DVCC?

David: No really significant events or anything, but the fact that I’m enjoying taking exercise is a big surprise to me. The amount of green vegetables that I’m eating is a surprise. My tolerance for alcohol is a surprise – two glasses and I fall asleep!

Greg: It’s got lower, has it?

David: Yes, far lower!

Greg: That’s good – it’s cheaper!

David: Yes – I don’t stay out very long though. So yes, it’s just all those little changes accumulate.

Greg: Any final words for me, David?

David: Only to thank you and Matt as well, for the training sessions and keeping it enjoyable. Also you need lots of people around you to help you do it; my friends and my family don’t try and convince me to have a beer or eat a cake, but are really supportive and cater for my peculiar needs.

Greg: It’s always helpful when you have people around you, helping you.

David: Yes.

Greg: Thank you very much for joining me David. If anyone listening to this spotlight interview would like to find out more about how the DVCC can you help you change your *life, then please book an appointment for a DVCC right fit phone call at www.thedvcc.com/signup. Thank you very much.
