Gary Never Thought He'd Run Again. Find Out How He's Now Preparing For Another Marathon!

Case Study, Nutrition, Weight loss, Diet, Workout, Running

Josh: Hi, this is Josh from the Double Vision Conditioning Centre in Bedford and I’m sat here with a client, Mr Gary Chester, who has been a client at the DVCC Bedford for a few months now and has achieved quite fantastic results in that time. So Gary, would you mind introducing yourself?

Gary_SpotlightGary: Hi, yes, I’m Gary!

Josh: Thank you very much! To give everyone a little bit of perspective, Gary has now *lost 27lbs of fat, which is a huge, huge amount. I would just like to go back to before Gary was a client at the DVCC. What was your daily routine like before you were a client at the DVCC?

Gary: Well I used to do a lot of sport, a lot of activity but over the last couple of years I wasn’t able to do anything at all and consequently put a lot of weight on, a lot of body fat. I knew I had to *lose it but only when I was ready to.

Josh: And how long were you concerned about *losing that body fat? Did it weigh on your mind for a long time or were you someone that just took action?

Gary: Probably seven or eight months, but I knew I had to be mentally in the right position to actually *lose it, otherwise you don’t.

Josh: And had you tried other ways before you came to the DVCC?

Gary: Well, until not being able to do any activity I had always been relatively fit, so it hadn’t really been a problem.

Josh: Ok, and how did you choose to keep fit before the DVCC?

Gary: Well, I am an ex Rugby player and runner, that’s what kept me fit.

Josh: Did you try and do those things before coming to the DVCC?

Gary: No, I just knew I was so overweight that I couldn’t really run. And I saw such great results from David Goodson, that I thought if it has worked for him it will work for me.

Josh: For those listening out there, David Goodson is another client of the DVCC at Bedford who has *lost just shy of 35lbs of fat, who lives on the same road as Gary. So if anyone is out there for some tips, ask what they are putting in the water over where they are!

How long have you known David?

Gary: Since 1999.

Josh: So a long time. Had you spoken to David about the DVCC?

Gary: No, only when I saw that he’d lost a lot of body fat, I asked him what he was doing, because he’s not the sportiest person in the world – he won’t mind me saying that! He said that this is what he was doing and it seemed like a good idea, so I thought I would give it a shot.

Josh: Did you have any fears or worries before joining the DVCC?

Gary: Well I did because I had had major surgery and I was concerned about what I could and couldn’t do after the major surgery.

So it was important that I had the right people looking after me when I was doing the exercises, to make sure that I didn’t hurt myself, effectively, from what I was doing. This is what I got and very soon realised that I had no limitation really and I could do pretty much what everybody else could do.

New Call-to-action

Josh: So, fast forward a few months to where you are now, how do you feel now compared to how you felt before joining the DVCC?

Gary: Gosh that’s a hard question isn’t it? I feel good with myself I think is the answer.

Josh: Is there any difference with your *life now that you’re 27lbs lighter?

Gary: Yes, my shirts are too big!

Josh: Not a bad position to be in!

Anything else – compare then a day in the *ife of Gary Chester now to a day in the *life of Gary Chester pre-DVCC?

Gary: Diet has changed without a doubt now; I eat breakfast every morning which I didn’t used to eat breakfast at all. I am very careful about what I do eat; I know when I’m eating well and I know when I’m not eating well. When I don’t eat well, it’s just the one occasion and I go back to eating better because you don’t want to put back on what you’ve *lost because it’s taken a lot of hard work to get it off in the first place.

Josh: Good. I know in terms of you just mentioned that you were too overweight to start running and I know you have taken up running again now. So how does that feel to be able to do that again?

Gary: I didn’t think I would ever run again, so it’s really good to be able to get out and run a few miles. But I have not gone back competitively; I haven’t done any races or anything like that yet.

Josh: Do you have another marathon in the sack?

Gary: Maybe. Maybe one more marathon before I finally hang up the boots. But it will be just good to get round, I shan’t go for a time.

Josh: I’ll be waving you on at the finish but I won’t be running around with you!

Have you got any favourite parts or parts of the Real You transformation process that you found particularly beneficial to yourself?

Gary: Just the consistency, I think it’s the habit; it’s 6 o’clock every weekday, I’m here. And that is now programmed in to everything that you do and everything that you do is around the fact that it’s 6 o’clock and you’re training. And 45 minutes and you’ve gone. So it becomes a lifestyle.

Josh: Good – I think that’s a good way to think about this.

Is there any advice that you can give to anyone who is perhaps in your position when you were thinking about joining the DVCC?

Gary: Really, you’ve got to ask yourself can you afford not to do it. Because it is an important fact that you get your body in the right shape so it can actually work properly for you. The benefits you then get are immeasurable in everything else that you do. So I would say if you’re thinking about it, don’t think about it – do it.

Josh: Thank you very much Gary. I hope everyone out there enjoyed listening and learned something that would help them in their journey. This has been Josh and Gary Chester from the DVCC; thank you very much for listening.
