Mark: Today, I’m going to be asking Stephen a question.

So, Stephen, is it inevitable that you’re going to put on weight as you get older?

Stephen : This is actually a quite common misconception.

A lot of people blame their age for putting on weight.

And when we say “weight,” we’re talking about putting on fat.

Now, the reason this happens to a lot of people is as we get older, our muscle gradually decreases.

But the problem is it doesn’t decrease by much.

A percent or two at the max. That’s if you’re not doing resistance training.

Mark: Hi! This is Mark and Stephen Gray from TheDVCC.com, the place to be if you want to lose fat and increase your muscle tone. Today, I’m going to be asking Stephen a question. So, Stephen, is it inevitable that you’re going to put on weight as you get older?

Stephen:  This is actually a quite common misconception.

Now, what a lot of people don’t realize is that you can actually stop your body losing muscle and actually increase it by doing resistance training. What happens when you lose muscle is your metabolism drops down. You end up burning fewer calories just doing your everyday activities. And therefore, when you’re eating the exact same way you did say 20 years ago, you’ll find that you’re actually consuming more calories than you’re burning off and you end up putting on fat. So, the easiest way to stop yourself from actually gaining fat as you get older obviously is not to let your activity levels to decrease, but to make sure that you are doing resistance work so that you maintain your muscle.

Mark:  And we’ve actually gone through this with our parents, and they thought that by going for walks, they’d say that they’ll go for two hour walks a day, that they were keeping the weight off and they were being healthy. But actually, my mother especially, found that she was putting on weight still, but being healthy by going on walks. And it was only when she started doing transformation camps, our transformation camps at our DoubleVision Conditioning Centres, where she does resistance training, that she found she started to lose fat and actually increase her muscle tone as well.

And she is what? 62? I hope that’s right. 62.

Stephen:  You can be in trouble now.

Mark:  And she’s doing resistance training, which means she’s losing fat now.

Stephen:  Another important thing actually to make sure that we talk about is eating enough protein. So it becomes even more vitally important as you get older, that you need to have enough of the building blocks that actually allow muscle to grow or to maintain. So if you’re not having enough good quality, lean protein, then you’ll find that that will also be another reason you’d lose muscle. And thus, increase the amount of fat you have. So, just have a think about making sure that you have enough lean protein. And when I say enough, for a female, we’re talking every meal, at least a palm’s worth of protein. That’s the minimum. And for a man, it would be two palms. Again, that’s a bit of a minimum.

When we talk about lean, quality protein, we’re talking about chicken breast, good quality beef, salmon fish, oily fish and different good quality sources like that.

Mark:  And we’re giving away a free what’s called a body diagnostic consultation where we’ll be able to put you on our special £5,000 machine and see how much body fat you have, and then also, how much muscle tone you have, more importantly, and then be able to give you a little map on how to increase your muscle tone and actually drop your body fat over the next months. So, all you need to do is click on the links and you’ll be able to book in for a free body diagnostic consultation.

So, we’ll see you next time on TheDVCC.com TV!
