We all love a piece of fruit from time to time. But is the fruit which you are consuming having a negative affect on your fat loss progress?

Fruits are considered as carbohydrates because they contain fructose. Fructose is a type of sugar that the body turns directly into fat (especially when consumed in high quantities).

fruits2Fructose is often extracted from fruit and turned into high corn fructose syrup. This syrup is then added to processed foods to make them taste sweeter. 

High corn fructose syrup is something you should avoid eating at all costs. It causes a huge insulin (the fat storage hormone) spike, which will stop your fat loss in its tracks.

Fruit juices should also be avoided as, during the process of turning from fruit into juice, they have the fibre removed, leaving you with lots of sugar in your drink. 

When you consume fructose, your liver processes it and, if your intake of fructose is too high, the liver turns the fructose into fat which is sent out into your bloodstream. The result of this is fat gain, a lowered sensitivity to insulin and cholesterol build up.

If you are serious about losing weight but still want to enjoy fruit, the best types of fruits to go for are berries.

berries2Berries have a low glycemic index, which means they don't elevate your blood sugar levels as quickly as other fruits, decreasing the chances of storing body fat.

Nectarines and grapefruit are also good choices.

The fruit that you want to avoid are bananas, pears and apples, as they have a higher glycemic index and an undesirable insulin response for fat loss.

Grapes should also be avoided, as they are amongst the most sprayed fruit. Pesticides may not impact your fat loss goals, but they are certainly not good for your health and well being.
