Hi! This is Mark from TheDVCC.com. In today’s video, I’m going to answer a question from Lisa. She asks, “Can you train too much? What is the ideal amount of time to exercise?”

It is About How Well You Recover

So a lot of people talk of overtraining and things like that, thinking that most of us are able to train really hard, and actually, it could be detrimental. Now it is very hard to, what is called “overtrain.” It really isn’t about that. It’s about how well you recover. So, there are athletes that train three times a day, and they are easily able to train three times a day and six days a week with heavy lifting, the Bulgarian weightlifters. But they recover. They sleep in the day, they eat perfectly. They do nothing else, they have no other stresses on their life, so they are able to recover, and for them, that is an okay amount of time to exercise.

Training for Everyday People

For most of us, we have more stress in our life. We have to take the children to school, we have to deal with work-life, whatever stress, relationship stress, so you obviously aren’t able to exercise that much. But what you want to look at is are you able to recover? Is your sleep correct? Are you eating well? Are you looking forward to your sessions? If you’re starting to not look forward to your sessions, then that’s a bit of an indicator. You just maybe want to tail it back a little bit and reduce by a session a week. But for most of us, we’re able to do two days on and one day off. That kind of split easily enough without any worries.

This is Mark from TheDVCC.com. Bye-bye.
