Brian Shares His Experience with The DVCC

"Hi, I am Brian, a 49yo IT professional living in Milton Keynes, though if you met me, you would realise I am still a Scotsman, from the West Coast of Scotland, not too far from Glasgow. I have been a nomad you could say over the years, living all over the UK from Manchester to Brighton, London, Bradford and Birmingham to mention a few.

I enjoy my work and it does keep me busy, but I ensure I allow time to relax, whether that is the theatre, gardening, cinema (real film buff with over 2000 DVD’s at home) or, since 2016 training, running and biking have been added to that list. 

I have great group of friends, regular drinks out or afternoon catch ups, though I think the hot tub in the garden does help and a happy life at home. I travel a lot, not just in the UK, but USA, most of Europe, Thailand, Malaysia and my favourite, Bali!

I decided in late 2015 that I was reaching an age where I really had to start looking after myself, I was very overweight, lethargic and had little physical activity in my life. I had concerns about my health and what risks I was putting my self in, due to my lifestyle, so decided to do something.

It started at Christmas 2015, when I received new gym gear and 10 private training sessions. Sounds all good, but the training was intermittent and though I did keep up some of the training after only 5 sessions, I did not have that ‘push’ to keep myself motivated enough. Some weight had come off, but still did not feel ‘healthy’!

Then I was told about DVCC, did a trial in September 2016, which I really enjoyed, the focus and the attention from the trainers, the camaraderie, it was all a plus, so after another long holiday in October, I signed up fully and commenced my training in November 2016.

I found the balance between work, private life and the training a little difficult at first, but soon arranged my days to fit everything I wanted to achieve without over stressing!

I have had several weeks off, due to a couple of injuries, so here at the end of June 2016, which will actually be my 6 month anniversary, I am very close to reaching my goals. The weight has gone, well the fat part at least, losing almost 8% of my body fat, at the same time gaining over 8lbs of muscle.

I still have my goals to achieve fully, but with 5 months to the end of my first year here at DVCC, with the continued great training and support from the team, I am sure I will attain everything I set out to do.

And on a final note, I have had my health checked by my GP, which was another bonus, not classed as overweight (hurrah), blood pressure is spot on and risk of Diabetes is far less and as for me, well, I feel energetic, focused and in great spirits, almost like I was in my 20’s or 30’s again, though usually in bed before midnight!"
