Alcohol seems to be one of the main reasons 40+ men and women struggle to lose weight, despite eating well. The reason is out:

  1. Drinking beyond your "tipping point" can make you consume 6,300 more calories than you normally would, according to a new UK survey.
  2. Participants who took part in the study ate an extra 6,300 calories within the following 24 hours after overdoing their alcohol intake.
  3. Alcohol only contains 7 calories per gram, making it not that high in calories, it is now known that the bigger problem is the poor food choices made after alcohol. An American Journal Of Clinical Nutrition study found men eat an extra 433 calories on days they drink alcohol.
  4. Just 3 alcoholic drinks can lower the body's levels in the feel-full hormone leptin, by 30 percent.
  5. Perhaps the most sobering news? After drinking, half of those surveyed dropped their exercise plans in favour of....Doing nothing!
