eggs-spartan.jpgWith so much conflicting information about the effects of eggs on your health, it can be hard to know if eating them is a good idea or not.

But eggs can provide miraculous benefits for your health, as they contain a full range of vitamins and nutrients, essential for a healthy lifestyle.

So, if you’re looking to improve your eating habits with balanced meals, then eggs should definitely be on the menu.

  1. Eggs provide good cholesterol. One of the most misunderstood rumours about eggs is that they can cause heart disease. According to the British Egg Information Council, one medium sized egg contains about 190mg of good cholesterol, which doesn’t have any negative effects, and is actually essential for your health. Newer studies have further revealed that the cholesterol in one egg provides the equivalent of 60% of your recommended daily allowance (RDA). If that wasn’t enough to convince you, the British Heart Foundation recommends a minimum of 3-4 eggs per week for an adult.
  2. boiled-eggs.jpgEggs are rich in antioxidants. The antioxidants found in eggs can help prevent cancer and cardiovascular disease. Eggs also contain Lutein and Zeaxanthin, two antioxidants that help protect the retina from cataracts and macular degeneration. Eggs are the perfect source for these two unique antioxidants, even better than spinach or any supplement on the market.
  3. Eggs contain all B vitamins. This includes vitamins B1, B2 (Riboflavin), B3, B5 (Pantothenic Acid), B6, B12 (cobalamin), choline, biotin, and folic acid. One large egg provides you 9% of the recommended daily allowance of Vitamin B12, 15% of the RDA of Vitamin B2 and 7% of the RDA of Vitamin B5. Choline is also important for your health, as it is an important nutrient for your brain and contributes to normal fat metabolism and liver function. One egg gives you 113 mg of choline, which is about a quarter of the daily-recommended intake.
  4. Eggs contain a full range of minerals and amino acids, essential for a healthy lifestyle. By introducing eggs into your meals, you get a higher intake of Phosphorus, which is good for your bones, teeth, and a normal energy metabolism. facts-left-egg.pngYou also increase the amount of Iodine in your body, which helps your skin and improves the nervous system’s function. Another important nutrient contained in eggs is Selenium, which protects your cells from against oxidative damage, and can have positive effects on your hair and nails. Eggs are also rich in proteins, as they contain all nine essential amino acids and significant amounts of Omega-3 Fats.
  5. One large eggs only has 75 calories only. Eggs don’t make you fat! 75 calories is a small intake in your daily allowance, especially considering that eggs are one of the most nutritious foods on the planet and best sources of protein. They provide your body with all the essential nutrients, minerals and vitamins you need with a very small intake of fat and just a few calories.

Eggs are important for a healthy lifestyle and nutritionists often include them among their recommendations. Try eating them for breakfast or introduce them in more complex meals and start reaping the health benefits.
