Transcript:

Hello and welcome to another episode of theTheDVCC.com podcast. I’m Stephen Gray, and with me on my right is my brother, Mark.

Mark:  Good afternoon!

Stephen:  What number podcast is this now then?

Mark:  Oh. We’re over a hundred now. We’ve got over a hundred audio recordings on iTunes. I saw it. Yeah, pretty good. It’s going really quickly really, isn’t it?

Stephen:  Really, really fast. But the great thing is I know that we can get at least another hundred, probably another thousand because the great thing about health and fitness and things like that is that you’re – well, we are – we’re constantly learning and always learning the best ways, the newest, so we’re always evolving. So luckily for you, hopefully…

Mark:  There’ll always be new information on how you can lose weight and increase your muscle tone!

Stephen:  Yes. So what are we talking about today?

Mark:  Today, we discussed earlier, Stephen, that we wanted to speak about how and why all of the sessions and the trainers train the same at the DoubleVision Conditioning Centres.

Stephen:  Yeah. We have centres in Milton Keynes and Bedford and a lady asked me – she trains in both places and she asked how is it that I go to both centres and I seem to get this exact same good quality workout, whether it’s a different trainer and no matter what. So she was asking why all the trainers train the same way. And so, basically, what we thought we’d do is discuss what I discussed with this lady, this client.

Mark:  And I think the first is to note that all DVCC trainers train the same. So they train the same because they’re within the DVCC. So basically – go on. You go on.

Stephen:  Well, I mean, we can start straightaway, I guess, but I think probably the first thing that it comes down to is equipment-wise, the way all the trainers train and the reason they train similarly is because we’ve designed over the years, Mark and I, for quite a few years now, since we finished being professional rugby players, that was when we really started our education, I guess, for personal training and fat loss and things like that. And so, over all those years, we’ve learnt an awful lot about fat loss.

Mark:  And pretty much, I guess I want to interject there, pretty much because we’ve gone on courses all the time. So since we started personal training, I think we took on average about six courses a year. And I’m not talking like day courses because actually, unfortunately, with personal training and things, it’s quite unregulated. You can have guys do a weekend course and then call themselves a personal trainer. Now all the courses we’ve done had been in America or Sweden and we go across there obviously for like 5 day courses or week courses. So it’s quite a big financial cost because obviously you’re traveling as well as staying, but we’ve literally, since we started personal training, done about 5, 6 courses a year, all abroad, simply because they’re the best ones that we could find and we’ve been literally furthering our education each and every year.

So basically, what Stephen is saying is that the equipment that we have in the DoubleVision centres is like an amalgamation of all of that knowledge and learning about obviously equipment and its uses for fat loss and how you can get the best results possible from equipment effectively.

Stephen:  I mean, for example, when you talk about courses, we’ve done something called “BioSignature.” I mean, you’ve heard us talk about where you store body fat is hormone-related and how you can actually decide to lose body fat from certain areas. Well, one of those courses that we did is called “BioSignature.” We’ve actually done it a few times, haven’t we? We’ve done it a few times.

Mark:  BioSignature Modulation.

Stephen:  But there’s very actually few people in the country that have actually done that course. At least having done it a few times and done the follow-up course for it which is BioSignature Modulation 2.

Mark:  I think there’s only one other chap that’s done BioSignature Modulation in Bedfordshire. I mean, we’ve taken it what? Three times. And then BioSignature Modulation twice. So it’s BioSignature Modulation 2 twice, because there’s a second version of it, a higher level version if it, twice. So, basically, yeah. And talking about that, carry on with the equipment, Stephen.

Stephen:  Well, yeah. So as Mark was saying, we basically started with both centres deciding what equipment we needed to have, what’s best for fat loss. We don’t just decide on that looks pretty, that looks nice or…

Mark:  Or that’s the latest fad.

Stephen:  That’s the latest fad. No. We go on what’s worked, what has been proven to work. And so, that’s how we designed the centres. We literally just said, “Right. What is the best? What do we need to have to get the best fat loss results?” So, for example, things like having a Prowler, the actual turf to be able to push the Prowler on. Sleds and things, different things like that, makes a massive difference because without those, then really, you’re actually just ending up doing the same sort of things that you’ll do in a normal gym where you’re running around on a treadmill and things like that.

Mark:  I mean, I pretty much don’t know anywhere else in Bedfordshire or Milton Keynes where you can drag 20 meters a sled or you can push your Prowler for 20 meters.

Stephen:  And for people that don’t actually know what those things are, I guess they sound quite tough. They are tough, but they are very, very effective for overall conditioning for losing fat. I guess that’s one of the reasons we get such good results, is because of the equipment that actually we have at the centres. Would you agree?

Mark:  Yeah. And a lot of it, like we say, is all the courses and learning. I mean, all the courses generally are focusing on professional sports. And so, we’ve obviously watered it down because professional sports, especially American football, is worth so much money that they’re at the top of the research for everything, As well as using our rugby knowledge and all our learnings, that’s where all the equipment has come in from. Actually, as we know more and more, we’ve streamlined and got rid of some things, increased some things. For example, we now have better turf because it’s better grip. It allows you to actually push…

Stephen:  Work harder.

Mark:  Work harder. You can push heavier and you elicit better results now. So yeah. So that’s the equipment side of things.

Stephen:  Yeah. And that’s where we started with the centres, like we said about the equipment. Now, when we move on to how all the DVCC trainers train in a similar style, similar way, I mean, obviously, they’re different people, so there’s slight differences in the sense that some might shout a little louder than others. But, it’s the principles which count and which get the results. So the results come from the routine and the type of exercise that you’re doing, don’t they?

Mark:  Yeah. Exactly. And you can only do that with the right equipment.

Stephen:  But, it’s no good if you have the right equipment but you don’t do it in the right way or in the right order or whatever.

Mark:  Yeah, exactly. Exactly. And the motivation is always kind of a side thing. You should, as a trainer, be able to motivate people, but it’s how you put together a program for someone with sore knees, someone that needs to strengthen up their back, someone who needs to strengthen up their scapula or whatever. That’s where the knowledge comes in and that’s where the templates for all DVCC trainers we have and the things that we’ve developed over the years really come into play.

Stephen:  I mean, actually, we should probably delve into it so that people know. I mean, every single routine is written specifically for the client. Things, adaptions are made for any client as needed. I mean, we even have special forms where the trainers will write down all the clients that they may be training, their special considerations. For example, like Mark says, someone might have a sore knee. They need to have an adaptation or a change or a different exercise. They might not be strong in a certain position. They need to work on it harder. So we have special forms actually that the trainers will use. I mean, we train the DVCC trainers every single week for at least now and we give them books to read and things like that because obviously, education is super, super important.

So Thursday is our training day, isn’t it? That’s when we’ll go through exactly how the routines are always put together, what’s working and what’s not. And basically, we’ll basically – I’m losing my words here, Mark.

Mark:  I don’t know what you’re trying to thread there, Stephen, but what I was going to say, because I was going to wait till you finished, is that with all of the – like the Thursday day trainings, Thursday team trainings – we’ve been able to come up with protocols for certain injuries. So, for example, I mean I, personally, and Stephen is the same, rehab lots of knees from full knee reconstructions all the way through to being able to run and we’ve been able to develop – obviously, with all the help of the courses we’ve done – amalgamating different things, protocols, that every trainer can follow to basically rehab certain body parts.

So, if someone’s got a knee that if they’re a certain stage, you can gradually progress them through using the protocol, the DVCC protocol. I, personally, and Stephen is the same, rehab lots of knees from full knee reconstructions all the way through to being able to run and we’ve been able to develop – obviously, with all the help of the courses we’ve done – amalgamating different things, protocols, that every trainer can follow to basically rehab certain body parts. So, if someone’s got a knee that if they’re a certain stage, you can gradually progress them through using the protocol, the DVCC protocol.

Stephen:  Yeah, yeah. Exactly that. But, the thing with that is that’s why – we’re going back to the equipment – that’s why we have some of the equipment we have, because that protocol would only work if we actually had the right equipment, which obviously, we’ve made sure we do.

Mark:  Yeah. I mean, for example, the step we have has micro holes basically where you can increase or decrease it by very small amounts, which is very good for knee rehab because a lot of steps or other things, and certainly in normal gyms or the bodybuilder type gyms – actually, we train at one – they don’t have that. So if you really want to progress a knee injury, you can’t do it, unfortunately, without that.

Stephen:  Yeah. And so, the routines are all written out. I mean, like Mark says, they take a lot of different learning from a lot of different places. Some slightly modified Strongman training, for example. Some metabolic resistance type of training, some functional rehab type training as well. Everything is kind of amalgamated into this system that obviously, we go through with all the trainers. And then, like we said, we update all that sort of knowledge every Thursday.

Mark:  Yeah. And that’s the important thing, is the fact that we don’t do boot camps. We do transformation camps because we do basically the type of training that is to the best of our knowledge as of this moment for fat loss for our clients. And that can change as we learn and as knowledge out there – experts in different fields, as they learn more and pass it on. As we learn more, and then pass it on to our trainers. That’s how things progress.

Stephen:  I mean, for example, I’m starting to play rugby again and I had a great conversation with the osteo/physio. I was getting a little bit of massage done and we’re just having a conversation and I actually just picked up a few things that had actually worked out or work really well with clients. So it’s just a couple of little exercises that we can put in. And so then, that got passed down, and then all new clients – actually, all clients and clients of the DVCC get to benefit from that.

Mark:  Exactly. So that’s I think the important thing, is that it’s constantly evolving, is the type of training that clients will get obviously from DVCC trainers.

Stephen:  Yeah. I think that’s the key, is that it’s constantly evolving, because like the way we train now is the best that’s available right now, knowledge-wise. But, like Mark says, the great thing about the health and fitness industry is that knowledge is constantly evolving. So that’s why we find it so important that we keep up to date and go on courses and read a gazillion books and annoy our girlfriends by reading too much, but we find that it’s constantly evolving so there’s so much to learn and you can constantly be getting better.

Mark:  Yeah. Exactly. And that is one of the requirements we have for any trainer that works with us at the DVCC, is that they have that same passion to learn. Like I know countless nights, I’d be in bed at 10 and then reading until half 10, just reading research, and I think one of the reasons I have kind of entered this field and progressed as we have is because I kind of like to show off and I like to show off the knowledge I have. And the more I learn, the more I want to help show it off to people, and therefore, help them with it. So I think that’s one of the main things the DVCC is set on, is the fact that we want to share our knowledge. It’s not just to keep it for ourselves. It’s to try and help people with it.

Stephen:  Well, we’re very, I’d say, personal. Well, we’re very results-focused people, so everything we do and everything we learn is to try and get better results because that’s what we focus on. So we’re relatively competitive, aren’t we? So we always want to be constantly trying to improve those results. So fortunately, that comes in the form of having to learn more and more about the human body and what works, what doesn’t work and that.

Mark:  Okay. So I think that’s a little bit of a background. That was a bit about the equipment and a bit of the training, and that’s answering the question of why do all DVCC trainers train the same. Because they have a specific training process they go through at the beginning and then throughout. That means that everybody is on the same lines in terms of knowledge and the training’s the same because that’s the best for clients.

Stephen:  And uses the DVCC protocols.

Mark:  The protocols, yeah.

Stephen:  That we’ve designed that we constantly evolve. And like Mark says, not just the fat loss protocols that were designed exercise-wise, but also the rehab and lower back and even upper back, shoulders and knees, all the different protocols that the DVCC has to help clients with those things.

Mark:  Yeah. So, anyway, I’d like to hear your comments. Do you have any comments? Just put them in the box below and let’s have a conversation. Otherwise, make sure you’ve subscribed on iTunes to our podcast, to our iTunes podcast. And if you can, write a review on it because on iTunes, we can’t respond to them, but we do appreciate them. So write a review on iTunes and it helps everybody know what hopefully is an informative and helpful podcast to you.

Stephen:  Yeah. And the next podcast, I know, because I’ve already been asked the question this morning actually, was all about the way we set up our nutrition program. So I’ve got some good and exciting, relatively exciting news on that, so we’ll look forward to recording that, and hopefully, you’ll look forward to listening to it.

Mark:  See you next time!
