MDS-1Nathan: Hi, I’m Nathan from the DVCC in Milton Keynes and I’m today speaking with Sam, the newest transformation expert to join the DVCC. Sam has recently started the Metabolic Damage Solution, so I thought it would be interesting just to get his ideas and his views on how he’s found his first few days on the Metabolic Damage Solution.

So Sam, how have you found the Metabolic Damage Solution so far and what day are you on currently?

Sam:   I’ve found it good so far; I’m currently on day 4, I started it on Monday. Yes, I’m finding it good; at first, my energy levels were low as I was used to eating a lot of carbohydrates throughout the day, over 6 meals. But I’m slowly getting used to it now, with no carbs.

Nathan: Ok, good. What kind of carbs were you eating with your meals and what was the reasoning for that, if you don’t mind me asking?

Sam:   I always related carbs to energy, so I’d usually have a lot of porridge for breakfast, pasta for lunch and maybe a lot of rice or sweet potato for dinner; also a lot of fruits as well, apples, oranges, also, obviously, some vegetables.

Nathan: Ok. And what obstacles have you come across on the MDS, what have you found hard?

Sam:   Mostly the first couple of days I felt lethargic; a lack of energy just with my body obviously not having the amount of carbs it’s used to.

Nathan: How did that affect your training?

Sam:   Training for the first two days was a bit difficult; the energy levels were a little bit weaker, but I just pushed through it and kept going, so it worked out ok.

Nathan: What did you do to combat that?

fats-and-meats-lg-1Sam:   Increased my fat and protein; when I first started MDS I was eating too little really. So I bumped up the fat content, more eggs, more oils, more healthy natural fats and also more lean proteins as well.

Nathan: So that’s important to note, if you are doing the MDS and you’re cutting out your carbohydrates, it is very important to increase your natural fat intake, because that’s going to provide you with a lot of natural energy.

Sam, you were a chef by trade before joining the DVCC, what is your favourite meal on the MDS, talk me through?

Sam:   My favourite meal is probably, so far, lamb mince meal; so it will be lamb mince, seasoned with cumin, chilli powder, cayenne pepper, put on top of a bed of lettuce; just serve it like that or with maybe some courgettes sliced up.

Nathan: Very good. What has helped you get through the first four days, any tips or tricks you can share with anyone listening?

Sam:   First four days - just keep the training going; keep it consistent; keep your meals frequent. So I would recommend eating every 2-3 hours, and definitely keep your water intake up, that’s probably the most important thing.

drinking-water-460_979746cNathan: Yes, keep drinking a lot of water. Because what will happen with a lot of people is that they will feel hungry, but what it can be is actually being thirsty so by drinking water it can actually fuel your fat loss and when your fat cells are more hydrated; it will make it easier to eat for fat loss.

How are you feeling now, on day 5, are you feeling more energetic?

Sam:   Yes, I am feeling a lot more energetic; training is going a lot easier, my strength has actually gone back up, which is good. I think I am going to appreciate carbohydrates a lot more when I do start reintroducing them; I think I was definitely overeating them before; so it will be good.

Nathan: So you have taken something from the experience, awesome.

And if you were to start the experience again, what would you do differently, if anything?

Sam:   Just make sure I was eating a sufficient amount of fats and proteins to start with; not eating too little and definitely just keep training like I was; keep training high and intense and just try and eat as frequently as you can and keep the water uptake in.

Nathan: Awesome. Sam, it has been awesome to talk to you today; if you’ve been listening to this interview I hope you have found it very helpful. Sam I’d like to thank you for your time and have a great day, this is Nathan and Sam from the DVCC in Milton Keynes.
