The New Year Weightloss Detox

Detox

Detox

Detoxes seem to be the buzz word at the moment.

You have over eaten and feel lethargic, so you want to rid yourself of all the bad stuff..

But how do you do it so that you will kick start your fat loss?

In this book we explain how!

Transcript:

Stephen: Hi, and welcome. This is Stephen Gray and Mark Gray from the DoubleVision Conditioning Centre. We wanted to write a book about detox. Detox in the New Year seems to be a very common theme. Every New Year, people look to go on a detox to lose weight but to make themselves feel better and to just generally – often just improve the way they feel I think. Obviously Christmas and New Year is a great time for overindulging, so people go into New Year feeling like they’re bloated, they put on body fat and just generally feel lethargic.

So we wanted to write a book about detox because a lot of people don’t either understand what a true detox is or do things very, very incorrectly so that they don’t actually succeed with what they’re trying to achieve.

So Mark is basically going to interview me, ask me a few questions that will allow me to let you know the best most effective way to do detoxes and to lose body fat obviously but also to feel a lot better and to be a lot healthier. That should be the actual true aim of a proper detox.

Mark: So I’m going to ask the first question which is why, Stephen, do most people fail when they do a detox?

Stephen: Well, there’s a number of reasons. Often, it starts with the type of detox. So a lot of people look to do something that’s very short-time, I mean, with the detox. The detox is automatically a short-term thing. You’re going to do it for a period of time and then you’re going to go back to how you were eating and how you were living beforehand. Now, another one of the issues is that the marketing companies, the different companies have come up with a lot of different ways to try to attract people with the latest and greatest way of detoxing. So for example, you have the lemon juice diet or the cabbage diet or lots of different types of detoxes that literally will cut down your calories enormously but also often only leave you eating one thing such as the cabbage diet or there’s a honey diet. There’s about a gazillion different types of detox.

But the one overriding problem with all of these is that they actually don’t understand physiologically how we detox our body, so basically how we get rid of toxins in our body. And that’s exactly what we’re trying to do with the detox is get rid of the toxins because over the Christmas, we’ll have eaten a lot of different sorts of foods, we’ll have drunk a lot of different sorts of alcohol no doubt, we’ll have done a lot of different things that we wouldn’t normally do in everyday life. So we’re trying to rid our body of those toxins and those toxins are actually stored in body fats, so we’ll have had an increase in body fat often over Christmas which will mean we got an increase of toxins in our body.

Now, there’s a few phases with detoxification. The main one is that really need to understand one and two. The problem with a lot of these detoxes is that you don’t take care both of these stages. So stage one is in lamest terms where you’re mobilizing those toxins, you’re getting them into your bloodstream from where they’re stored which is in the body fat tissue. So they’re writhing around your bloodstream. And then phase two is where you’re basically getting rid of those toxins from your body. But to get rid of them, you’re excreting them obviously. There’s a few different ways we excrete them, one of those being through our feces and urine. But the way to mobilize those toxins or get rid of those toxins from your bloodstream, you have to have a number of different nutrients. One of the most important being amino acids which are obviously we know from protein.

So the major problem with a lot of these detoxes is that they don’t actually have any form of protein in them. So, when you’re doing a low calorie cabbage diet or whatever, you can replace that with any of these other forms of detox that don’t have any appreciable amount of protein in them, you will not be able to actually get rid of those toxins. So what you’re doing is you’re mobilizing them and put them into your bloodstream which then whizzes around and stays that it doesn’t get come out. So actually, it can cause a lot of damage to you because all you’re doing is having these toxins in your bloodstream when your body actually stores them in its fat because it’s the safest place for them. Your body is not stupid, it knows the best way to keep you safe and healthy or healthier and that’s to store toxins in your fat or have them out of your body. So if you’re not giving your body enough amino acids e.g., enough protein to actually get rid of them, the detox is never going to be successful.

Another reason detoxes often fail for people is that they’re using them for short-term basis which is fine because that’s what detox is. It’s not supposed to be super, super long-term. However, you don’t think about habits that have created the issues, so often, people will do detoxes not just at Christmas or in the New Year but they will do them throughout the year having not actually taking care of the reasons that they need to detox in the first place.

Mark: Okay. That’s very good, Steve. So what are the benefits in doing detox correctly?

Stephen: Well, the benefits to a lot of people are that they’re going to feel but in the first place, they feel like they’ve overindulged, they feel like they’ve eaten too much sugar. They feel like they’ve drunk too much alcohol over Christmas and New Year. So the number one benefit that people are – correctly done detox will have you feel is that you will be a lot less bloated. So you’re going to feel a lot healthier. You’re going to be storing a lot less water.

So often over Christmas and New Year, if you’ve eaten a lot of sugary foods, you’re going to be storing and feeling bloated but storing a lot more water. So you’re going to reduce your fluid retention and you will actually eliminate sugar craving, so an interesting phenomenon that the more sugar you eat, the more you’ll be craving sugar. So often you’ll find people will have found that over Christmas and New Year, the fact that they’re eating more in the way of sugar means that they actually wanted to eat more and that’s why detox in the New Year can often be a good thing when done correctly because it will break that cycle of sugar cravings. So it will be a good kind of kickoff to start the New Year when done correctly because it will kickstart weight loss. You will lose fat if done correctly. Your normal daily bowel movements will be correct. Often, that could be one of the things that suffers. As you’re feeling more bloated, you’re not having as much fiber in your diet over Christmas and New Year.

And one of the major massive improvements of people have is an increased energy and enhanced mental clarity. Basically, your brain will be working better and you’re going to have a lot more energy. You’ll often notice that over Christmas and New Year, you’re doing a lot more sleeping and people think that that’s due to having family around or late at night and things. But actually, most of the time, it’s due to the types of foods that we’re eating, so having a lot more sugar will make you sleep a lot less. And actually, another thing where detox is done correctly, you will actually enhance and improve your immune system. Again, over Christmas and New Year, people often get little colds and things or coming into the New Year get ill because too much or basically the more sugar you have, the lower your immune system will be. Sugar actually drops our immune system. So at Christmas and New Year, people tend to get more ill in the way of colds and things like that, same with Easter when everyone is eating a lot more sugar.

So there are a lot of benefits to doing a correct detox. And the main ones that people are looking for are obviously weight loss but an increased energy and just general well being, feeling that much better. And doing detox correctly is a great way to really kickstart the New Year and to really kickstart any sort of weight loss effort when it’s done correctly as it will, like I said, one of the main benefits is that it will eliminate your sugar cravings quite quickly.

Mark: Okay. Thanks for that, Stephen. So, is a detox right for me? So how do I know if a detox is right for me because you’re saying it’s not probably best for everyone? So what would you say is the right mindset to go into doing a detox?

Stephen: Well, that’s a good question. It really comes down to, yeah, like you said, what is the reason you’re doing a detox. So are you using it as a kickstart to longer-term fat lost knowing that obviously it can’t be sustained and also knowing that you have to change what you were doing before the detox to keep on going weight loss going or are you literally just doing it as a short-term things and then go back to eating the bad food choices that got you there in the first place? So most people will know that a detox is not going to allow you to go back to eating the exact same way that got you to needing or wanting to do a detox in the first place.

So when you’re going into it knowing that also when you stop doing the detox, you’re going to have to start looking at the habits that got you there in the first place and start changing those, then it’s a great way to kickstart weight loss, fat loss, a great way to allow you to really make some big stride, start the New Year, if we’re talking about it at New Year, with enhanced energy, with less bloating, with obviously fat loss and with eliminating the sugar cravings often make weight loss or fat loss hard.

So going into the right mindset that you’re going to continually work of changing your habits after finishing the detox is the right way to do it. But if you’re looking to just do it as a short-term thing, then go back to eating the poor bad food choices or drinking too much alcohol that you were doing, then that’s not the way to do it. It’s not going to be healthy for your body. And also, only if you’re going to do it correctly, only if you’re going to, we’ll talk about how to do it correctly in the moment, but literally, only if you’re willing to actually do it correctly, not just do some snazzy little detox that doesn’t give you any protein to allow to actually truly detoxify your body or you literally do is drop your calories down so that you will lose weight, you will lose fat, the same way any low calorie diet works in a very, very short-term but metabolically, it will really mess you up for the future. It will stop you losing fat in the long-term.

And in the end, if you were to do that, you’d be in the same position, if not worst, you have essentially setting yourself up to basically have more fat this time next year. So you’ll end up being fatter this time next year by doing an incorrect detox, by not having enough protein and therefore losing muscle. That’s one of the main things actually I should have mentioned people do when they do an incorrect detox is that they’ll lose muscle which will drop their metabolism which means that they end up burning less calories which means when they do go back to eating normally, they’re going to be burning less calories than they were which means the same amount of food is going to actually allow them to put on body fat instead of losing it.

So that’s also one of the major reasons these detoxes that people do don’t work because they don’t have any protein to sustain muscle tone and no one wants to actually just lose muscle because that’s what will happen, your body will just lose muscle rather than actually losing fat. So whilst these low calorie detoxes will make you lose weight on the scale, in the long-term, they’ll cause you to put on weight because you’re losing muscle. And also, you will not be healthier. You will not look better because someone that loses muscle rather than fat does not look healthier. So it’s very important that you realize that you need to do a detox correctly if you’re going to do one at all.

Mark: Okay. Thanks for that. So, what do we have to do to do it right? How to do a detox correctly?

Stephen: Okay. So this is where most people will want to have got to. This is the stuff that matters. So, there’s a few steps you need to do to do a correct detox, to do detox correctly which will allow you to actually carry on losing body fat in the long-term. So, the first thing is you need to consume plenty of water and I will start with the basics that people often will know about. So, you do need to improve or enhance the amount of water you have because if you’re not hydrated, then your body will not be able to detoxify itself and it wouldn’t be healthy.

One of the things to realize is that by detoxing your body, you’re trying to become healthier and if you’re not having enough water, then that will not actually happens. So if you don’t want to have plain water, you can get some fresh limes, chop them up and then put them in to your water and aim for between 2 to 3 liters a day. That’s the only good number 2, but more than 2 if you’re a woman and perhaps 3, maybe a bit more if you’re a man depending on your size. But you won’t struggle to over drink water unless you’re having 15 liters a day, you’ll probably not going to have too much.

So, you want to get most of your drinking done at the beginning of the day. You don’t really want to be trying to catch up with your water intake later on in the evening. So, try to start your day with a pint of water with some lime, fresh lime in it at breakfast and that will really kickstart your drinking of water. And what people often don’t realize is that by drinking more, you will actually crave more water. So for the first few days, you want to go to the toilet a lot more than you’re used to, but after a few days, that will come down and let you get more than just right as your body realizes that more water is coming to it will actually rid itself of water. So you’ll actually conversely be storing less water so you will have less water retention by drinking more. So if you just want to feel better straight away, taking care of the amount of water you’re drinking between 2 to 3 liters is ideal. So that’s the first step you really want to make sure you’ve got going.

Now, another step is to, like I’ve already mentioned, stay away from diets. So don’t think of having to cut down the amount of calories you’re having. That’s what most people think about of detox is basically just eating a lot less. But that’s not the way to actually truly detoxify your body. You won’t be able to carry on losing fat as that’s ultimately what most people want to do, carry on being able to lose fat. And actually, if you do an incorrect detox diet, you will put on fat after you’ve actually come off it. So stay away from these diets and think more of the way you’re going to get your body the nutrients to actually be able to detoxify because your body is very, very good at detoxifying itself when it’s given the correct nutrients. So don’t think of having to cut your calories down because that’s not the way your body works and that won’t actually allow it to detoxify.

So third step is to drink more or to actually drink some green or white tea.  So teas contains great, great compounds that allow your body to actually detoxify. So ideally, you’d go for about 5 to 6 cups a day. It seems like a lot, but once you get them to the habit of doing it, it’s not too much and that will actually be able to count towards your water intake. One thing to note though, do not have green tea on an empty stomach. You’ll find that makes you feel quite sick. But the third step, you can make is aim to drink between 5 to 6 cups of green and white tea or white tea I should say a day. There’s loads of different types of green teas you can get now with Akanasia, with Jasmine, with cranberry, loads of different source of tasting green teas, so I find that hard to believe that you can’t find one that you enjoy. So get hold of some taste of green tea that you like and aim to have 5 to 6 cups a day. Between these three steps we’ve already spoken about, you’ll start to really feel different and your body will start ramping up its detoxification abilities and really start getting rid of those toxins which will obviously leave you losing fat and giving you enhanced energy as well.

So the fourth step is to eat small meals. Now, small meals consisting of foods that, I’ll describe it this way, that either fly, swim or run and foods that’s green and grown in the ground. So basically what I’m saying is for the next 14 days, at the start of this detoxification protocol, you’re going to limit what you eat which – actually , I say limit but obviously there’s an enormous amounts of different types of foods you can have, basically natural protein sources, so foods that fly, animal wise, they swim or they run. So basically what we’re saying is animal protein or fish. So we’re looking at good quality of beef, good quality of chicken, good quality turkey. We’re looking at egg. We can add eggs into that mix and also obviously any form of good quality fish. And then you’re going to put that together with any form of good quality, so ideally, we’re going to look at organic foods, green vegetables, so anything that’s grown in the ground that’s green and lots of things like cabbages, asparagus, spinach. We’re looking at those sorts of things. Cauliflower counts because it does have those green stems, so that counts as a good detoxification food. And you’re literally looking to limit yourself to those types of food. And for the first three or four days, you’re going to find that actually, yes, you’re craving different sorts of sugary foods, but that’s purely – that’s only going to last for three to four days and after that, your energy levels are just going to skyrocket. You’re going to find you definitely crave for far less sugar and you are just feeling a lot, lot healthier.

And one thing to note is you cannot overeat green vegetables. So you literally want to be eating as many of those as you can. So perhaps you’re looking at three to four different meals, ideally four. You can go up to five little meals, small meals, that’s the thing to note. Your body will naturally regulate its hunger if you’re eating the right source of food, so good quality protein and good cruciferous that are called vegetables. So if you want to know what sorts of vegetables you can consume to Google cruciferous vegetables and a big list will come up. And you’re going to do that for 14 days. So you’re going to combine that with obviously the amount of water we talked about and the green or white tea.

You’re allowed one coffee in the morning only, okay? Coffee is excellent for you, however, in too large doses, it can become unhealthy for you and what we found is that most people that drink coffee don’t just have one cup a day, they drink an awful lot and the same, so when I do this protocol, it is a bit of a bind for me for the first three or four days, but I’m feeling a lot more energetic actually when I’m not having too much coffee and just having one, so you get one coffee in the morning only. And I actually tend to enjoy it more because I’m limited in that way.

So for the next 14 days, let me just recap, you’re going to only eat good quality protein that swims or runs or flies and you’re going to mix that with pure green and grown in the ground vegetables only and that’s for the next 14 days. You’re only going to have one coffee in the morning, no alcohol and no sugary drinks. So be aware of this, a lot of people don’t realize that they’re actually sugar and things that actually aren’t allowing your body to detox. So stick to these types of foods I’ve spoken about only. So don’t add it, oh, maybe I’m allowed a little or say maybe I’m allowed a right bean, you’re not unless I’ve spoken about it already. So it’s very important that you stick to these things for the next 14 days.

So it’s a 14-day style of detox. So you’re going to only aim for 14 days. Now, I’m going to talk about in a moment what to do after the detox. But just to note, like I said, after about three or four days, maybe your energy levels will drop but on about the fourth or fifth day, it will suddenly rise again as your body adapts to actually having enough fiber in it to detoxify because fiber is important for detoxification but also having enough hydration and so enough water. Your metabolism is going to start to speed up from the green teas. And also you’re giving yourself enough protein to actually maintain your muscle tone. And if you’re exercising, you can actually start to build muscle tone correctly which is a lot of people don’t do. And you’ll just going to feel generally more energetic.

Another thing to note is maybe in the first three or four days, you actually can start to feel bloated as your body is adapting to, like I said, having enough fiber, having enough water, so enough hydration. And until your body realizes it’s going to carry on getting enough, it may store a little bit more water, you may feel a little bit bloated even after three or four days. But believe me, on four or five days, your body is going to adapt and it’s just going to thrive. That’s the thing. What we’re doing here is providing your body with nutrients for it to thrive. A body with enough nutrients will naturally detoxify. So once you’re thinking you’re not cutting down calories, what you’ll find is actually your calories will be generally now lower even when you’re not trying to cut them down because these types of food, these healthiest forms of foods are foods that naturally allow your body to detoxify because they give your body the nutrition to detoxify. So that’s one of the most important things to realize that your body will be detoxifying far better than it’s ever done because it has the right nutrients to be able to detoxify. Your body will not detoxify if it doesn’t have the correct nutrients to do so. So that’s a very important thing to note.

And another thing is people will say, “Oh, I’m not having any form of carbohydrate.” That’s not true. Green vegetables give you carbohydrate. They’re just a very fibrous form which is the most healthy form of fiber. So there is no known diseases known to man for lack of carbohydrate. So that’s one thing to note. So you don’t require, your body doesn’t need to have white pastry. It doesn’t need to have potatoes, it doesn’t need to have rice to actually thrive. It actually thrives far more effectively when it gets predominant amount of carbohydrate from green vegetables.

So I’ll talk about what we’re going to do after the detox and you are not going to have to eat this exact same way for the rest of your life. However, for a detoxification, this is the most effective protocol and it’s something that you can go back to whenever you feel the need. So often, people come back from a holiday and perhaps they’ve overindulged. One thing that we say at DoubleVision Conditioning Centres is that nutritionally, we don’t see the issue with people having about 20 days off, I’d say, what you’d call off in the year, so often, that’s around Christmas time and then again in the holiday time in the summer. But after those periods, because you’re eating differently to how you’re used to eating, your body won’t be feeling great. So doing a detox like this is a great way to kind of get back into the swing of things. So this protocol can be used other times of the year as well. It’s a very, very healthy way of eating. But anyone that says it isn’t doesn’t really know what they’re talking about. As long as you’re having enough green vegetables and the quality of your food is as good as it can be. So ideally, organic and grass-fed food meats would be the best.

Mark: Okay, then. Thanks for that, Stephen. So what do we do after detox?

Stephen: So this is very important question I think because a lot of people haven’t actually thought about this when they have planned to do a detox at the beginning of the year. They haven’t thought about what they’re going to do afterwards to keep that progress going. So the protocol I’ve just spoken about will reset your metabolism that will allow you to maintain muscle tone which will further increase your metabolism. So we want to really use those things to carry on the progress that we’ve made. But the issue is that to make long-term progress, we need to look at the habits that have meant that you need to want – so you want to lose fat in the first place and feel the need to detoxify.

So what we start to look at with clients at DoubleVision Conditioning Centres is what habits do we need to implement into your life to continue losing weight. So we actually have a few different protocols we use and one of them is called the Weight Loss Habit Builder and that goes through – it takes 21 days to build a habit roughly, some more, some less, but we go with 21 days of consistently doing something that nutritionally habit wise that is congruent with what you want to achieve, weight loss wise.

So, for example, your first habits after you finished your detox, so on the 15th day, if you ever wonder what do I do, well, you’re able to eat what you eat, so 15th day, you can have a whole day of eating whatever you want. But I will warn you, you’ve gone gluten-free if you’ve done this correctly for the last 14 days and you’ve gone sugar-free, you’ve gone alcohol-free. So if you go super crazy on the 15th day, you will wake up on the 16th day feeling like you’ve been ran over by a truck. So, you are allowed to eat whatever you want on the 15th day but I would tamper that with be prepared for how you feel after that and that’s a very good sign that those foods you’re eating are not particularly healthy for you. So you can often use that as kind of a good motivator ongoing because you’re like, “I don’t want to feel like that again. That feels terrible and I feel so much with little energy.” You’ll feel like you’ve undone all that good work and you won’t have done but you’ll feel like you have and you will just feel awful. So just be aware of that. You have that 15th day to look forward to where you can eat whatever you want, but be aware that you want, on the 16th day, to get back into building habits.

So perhaps the first habit will be having a good quality high protein breakfast. So that could be omelets. That can be salmon. That can be any form of good quality protein at breakfast with some healthy fats. So I’m an extreme case, but I like to have a sirloin steak with a handful of nuts that really gives me a lot of energy. Some people like to have omelets. But basically, you want to have good quality protein breakfast. And that would be your first habit. You do that for the next 21 days and that will maintain, that will increase, that will further enhance that fat loss that you’ve started with.

If you look to just try and carry on with the diet of sorts, 99% of people failed because they don’t change their habits. Habits are things that you do automatically like when you clean your teeth, it takes no mental energy at all. You can clean your teeth and think of other things and do other things. But when you’re doing a diet or you haven’t actually made healthy habit changes, you’re constantly having to use mental energy which becomes very tiring. So we only have certain amount of mental energy to actually do these different things. So when things overcome us, so we have sort of emotional distress, we have trouble at work, whatever that may be, the first thing to go are the things that aren’t habits, things that you actually have to think about doing. So if you don’t take the time to put in a habit towards losing fat, losing weight, then as soon anything comes up, like it happens with most people in the year, you’ll lose that habit and you will go back and you’ll end up where you started, if not, further behind.

So it will take 21 days to building a habit. And what you’re going to focus on for the rest of the year, for the rest of the time that you’re trying to lose fat is building in new habits. So every 21 days, you’re building new habit and like this, we have protocols at DoubleVision Conditioning Centres that focus on the right habits, the right weight loss habits and that’s why it’s called the Weight Loss Habit Builder as it – we know what people that lose weight, make long-term transformations, what habits they have to actually incorporate into their lives. So we go through those and we basically will spend the rest of the time building in these habits rather than looking at short-term fixes.

So we’ve done this detox protocol which is very effective for kickstarting detoxification, but we then need to build in the habits will actually allow your body to continuously detox. So when you’re eating correctly long-term, your body is continuously detoxing. So once is may be good to do this protocol, once or twice a year anyway, just as a good mental way of kind of focusing your mind and sometimes people just need to refocus. You wouldn’t really need to detoxify in that same sense because your body is continuously detoxing because you have the correct habits, weight loss habits that actually allow your body to be healthy, the right nutrients to actually allow it to detoxify in the long-term.

So, that’s why after this detox, you really need to be focused on the habits. And actually, once you’re going through this detox, you want to be thinking about what your first habit is going to be that’s going to carry on your progress and then what the following – you’ll actually want to think of what the next habit would be after that because it will take 21 days of focusing on that habit. Don’t try to do more than one at a time as you will most likely fail as you’re not able to actually focus on more than one thing correctly to make it into a habit. So don’t try and fast forward and so you can navigate the system. Do one habit at a time every 21 days and you’ll find that you really are able to carry on and use this detox as what it’s supposed to be, a springboard for further fat loss, further success. So that’s very important to remember. Don’t look at it as a short-term thing. You’re then going to go back to the same eating habits that you had. You need to change the habits that got you to where you are in the first place. So that’s very important.

So I mentioned a few things that we’ve gone through. Perhaps you’re eating through twice, the idea behind is because it’s a short little handbook and detoxification doesn’t have to be complicated. That’s the one thing. It may seem simple but if you do it correctly and do it fully, you’ll find that it’s massively successful. We’ve incorporated this alongside of few other things in protocol called the metabolic damage protocol because this will actually allow you to fix your metabolism as well. So your metabolism can take a badgering particularly over Christmas and New Year. So this will actually help speed up your metabolism as well like I’ve already mentioned.

Mark: Okay then Stephen, thanks very much for that. Now, if we want to find out more information and actually wanted come along to one of the DoubleVision Conditioning Centres, what do we have to do?

Stephen: Well, if you just go to www.TheDVCC.com, there’s a lot more information you can get, a lot more free information. And if you want to come in, have a look around and look at all the other protocols we have, this is just one of the touch on one of the protocols we have. We’ve developed a lot of trademark protocols at DoubleVision Conditioning Centres from obviously years of experience, years of learning education and a lot of, hundreds actually, of successful long-term transformations as well. So most people aren’t just looking to do detox and lose weight in the short-term. They actually want to carry on that weight loss. So if you go to www.TheDVCC.com and on the top right there, it’s how to lose weight and then you click through and you’ll be able to choose one of the centres that you’re nearest to.

Mark: Okay then, thanks. And we’ll look forward to everyone’s success with the New Year weight loss detox.
