If you are struggling with menopausal symptoms, we're here to tell you that Spanish red wine might quickly become a new best friend in helping get rid of them!

Now, whilst we do not encourage anyone to completely ‘give up’ alcohol if they don’t want to, it is worth noting that during the menopause especially, alcohol is one of the key on-setters of hot flushes, hormonal imbalances, weight gain and general discomfort so avoiding it can be advantageous. 

HOWEVER. If you've got a social occasion coming up, or just fancy a small drink to relax after a hard day, don't worry, research has shown that there might be one type of alcohol which may prove more beneficial than you may expect...

Spanish red wine! By drinking one glass of Spanish red wine every so often, you can actually reduce many of those uncomfortable symptoms of the menopause.

This is because red wine contains something called “Resveratrol,”. Resveratrol is part of a group of compounds called polyphenols, which act like antioxidants, protecting the body against things that can put you at higher risk for numerous diseases.

One study on the affect of resveratrol on menopausal women also showed that regular consumption may boost well-being in postmenopausal women.

But just because wine does contain resveratrol, that doesn't mean you should go crazy. There is a fine line separates a “moderate” amount of alcohol from too much. Stick to just one small glass of wine a night as a maximum. Consuming any more is likely to actually emphasise the symptoms we are trying to avoid! Leaving you more prone to a hot flushes, hormone imbalances and diseases such as heart disease and obesity.

So there you have it! A glass every few days keeps those irritating menopause symptoms at bay!
