Shoulder pain? Fix it with a tennis ball!

A lot of us suffer with various muscle pains. We often just find ourselves putting things off in hopes that it will ‘fix itself’… Well did you know that you can skip sitting through all of that unnecessary pain, and give yourself better posture by using nothing more than a tennis ball?!

A lot of people actually have internally rotated shoulders. This can be caused not only by exercise but also from daily living, for example sitting at a computer, or just slouching in general with your shoulders leaning forward. Chances are, you are doing it right now without even realising!

This slouched position often leads to tight pectorals, causing your shoulders internally and a lot of shoulder pain. It also means you are very likely to have weak ‘retractors’ in the back of your shoulder, the muscles to help to support your shoulder.

In order to help combat this, follow these steps!

1) Take a tennis ball, place it into the crux of your shoulder.

2) Then go up against a wall, then simply roll it around, pushing it into tight areas.

3) Slowly raise your arm and bring it behind your back; you will experience some tight spots and possibly a little soreness, but the more frequently you do this, the less tightness you will feel and you will actually progress – your shoulders will begin to sit in the correct position.

4) Repeat for 2-3 minutes at a time for 2 weeks.

5) After this, you will then be able to progress to using a hockey ball or a cross ball, which is slightly harder, and you will find that again this will cause the same slight discomfort and tension spots that you did when you first started with the tennis ball.
