"If you think you are too old to join a gym, don’t." Sarah's Journey at The DVCC

Last year, Sarah found her self confidence had disappeared. She didn’t feel comfortable with her body and the idea of wearing swimwear seemed like a faraway impossibility…


…But Sarah wasn't one to simply 'give up'. After an emotional and hard working journey, fast forward to now, and Sarah has just enjoyed a lovely holiday in Portugal, and was feeling fierce in her swimming costume!

Since joining The DVCC Sarah has managed to lose over 10lbs, overcome her past injuries and is now feeling stronger than ever! We adapted every exercise to suit HER needs and make sure that she was getting the most out of every session! 


“I can remember sitting in that office just in tears because I was so low.

I remember coming in, talking to Henry (DVCC Assessor), saying what my goals were, just to feel good about myself. I'd put on a bit of weight, which I do quite easily. At that stage, I didn't even want to put a swimming costume on, let alone a bikini or anything like that.

I went to Portugal just a few weeks back and felt really confident walking around the pool in my swimming costume. Yeah, I've lost 10lbs since I've been here!

Before I came here, everyday I felt my back. It was an unusual thing to say "Oh, my back doesn't hurt today." Whereas now, it’s an unusual thing for me to say that "Oh, I've got a bit of a twinge in my back!”

People often say: "I can’t do that because” "I can't do that because” Here, the guys will adapt it to whatever your condition is or whatever your situation is. They will come around to you, put you in the right position, tell you how brilliant you are doing.

I'll be 58 in November, there's different ages, different sizes, different health aspects and everything. So if you are thinking you are too old to join a gym, don’t. You just won't look back. It's just a fantastic place and I love it.”

Do you feel intimidated by normal gyms?

The big box impersonal gyms leave you feeling awkward, and lacking motivation to lose weight and get fit.

The DVCC is for men and women who want to lose weight, get fit but don't want to do it in a normal big box gym.
