After a serious accident, Mel’s life nearly changed forever…

…After falling off of a horse, Mel severely broke her back and pelvis, leaving her bed bound for 3 months and undergoing a course of intensive rehabilitation…

…But Mel was not to be stopped!

She made a miraculous recovery and was lucky to be walking again, however was left with some added weight which she couldn’t seem to shift on her own. This combined with two young children meant that Mel found it harder and harder to find the time to just focus on herself and her fitness.

After listening to her needs, past experiences and goals, we helped create a personalised plan that suited her and her lifestyle. Through a combination of experienced staff guiding her through every step of the way and the lovely community of The DVCC, Mel was made to feel at home from the moment she walked through the door!

When I was 30, I had a really serious accident. I broke my back, my back and my pelvis really badly and it resulted in me laying in a bed for 3 months essentially and then going through extensive rehabilitation. I then struggled with my fitness, I struggled a lot with pain. And then having two young children, I struggled to have time for myself and I found that I just put on weight.

I am not to be stopped. I don't have that mentality so it was never going to hinder me.

The first thing that I noticed was that when I spoke with Henry (assessor), he listened to me! So I really felt that I was coming to a place where people understood the challenges that I had had. At every point of this journey, I have found everyone has supported me and is experienced enough to support me.

If you are a little bit nervous perhaps or you are really unsure as to what to do, I would say give it a go! You will feel confident and you will feel included, and you will never feel that is it out of your range.

It doesn't matter what shape, size, age or gender you are, you feel comfortable here!”
