Is Eating Late At Night Bad?

There are two answers to this question.

Many people think that eating carbohydrates late in the evening is bad and actually causes the body to store fat, but the truth of the matter is it really depends more on what you are eating throughout the day.

If you eat good quality fats, carbohydrates and vegetables during the day, then that will help towards fat loss; you therefore don’t have to worry about if you are eating carbohydrates in the evening.

However, it does depend on what type of carbohydrate you are eating; if you are loading yourself up with something full of sugar, rather than something like quinoa or sweet potato, then yes – it will have a fat storage impact on your body, so it depends on what you are eating, rather than what time you are eating.

On the other hand, we don’t all live in an ideal world, where everyone can eat exactly at the time they need to; often during the day we are busy and it is easier to eat in the evening as you are at home where you have the facilities to prepare and eat a healthy meal. This is a real world answer, rather than what is ideal.

Having said that, the second point is, if you can avoid having a large meal for dinner, this will be beneficial for you.

Overnight, many detoxification and regeneration processes occur and the more food you have to digest overnight, the less energy you have for detoxification and regeneration. So, if you do live in an ideal world where you can choose, you are better off having larger meals for breakfast, mid-morning and lunch, decreasing your meal sizes down to dinner; and then try not to eat for at least a few hours before going to sleep.
