How to Take Magnesium for a Healthy Body

Health, Sleep, Supplements, Magnesium

A lot of people ask us about supplements and if we had to pick one, which one would it be. While we don’t believe that your body needs very many –

Taking the right supplement in the right dose at the right time can do wonders.

We often recommend fish oil and vitamin D in the winter. And if you’re trying to build stronger muscles or put on muscle mass quickly, then you can top up with whey protein. But cut to the chase, if we had to pick one, our choice would be magnesium.

Why Do You Need Magnesium?

You’re probably an unlikely candidate for magnesium deficiency, as this tends to affect cancer patients, alcohol abusers, or people with chronic kidney disease. But one thing that magnesium is great at is combatting stress, a modern disease that all of us suffer from time to time.

When you take magnesium at night, it can work wonders to promote a better quality of sleep and help you drift off more quickly. How come? Because magnesium drops your cortisol levels.

Cortisol is otherwise known as your stress hormone, which should be naturally lower at night. But a combination of working too hard, worrying about daily problems and juggling family, work and working out can weigh heavy on your mind.

Sometimes you don’t even realise that you’re feeling stressed until you start having problems sleeping or switching off your mind.

Enter Magnesium

This powerful supplement, especially when taken at night (we recommend four capsules at dinner time) will start to regulate your sleep in as little as three or four days. If your body’s getting enough magnesium to combat your piques in stress, you’re more likely to hit the pillow and sleep through until the next morning undisturbed.

Can I Get Magnesium From Food?

Yes. You can. Although if you’re trying to reduce your intake of high fat or calories foods, like cheese and chocolate, then you’ll be cutting off one of your main magnesium sources. So opt for dark leafy greens and whole grains instead.

Also, remember that if your magnesium levels are being gnawed away at by stress, or if you’re suffering from any kind of injury, this will lower your magnesium supplies.

Take magnesium right. Take it at night and start to feel more relaxed, better rested and with suppler joints at the same time.

So there you go. If you’re only going to take one supplement, then try adding magnesium – and let us know how it goes!
