Hi! This is Stephen from TheDVCC.com. Today I am going to be talking about calcium.

How Can I Meet My Calcium Needs?

Now one of the questions I get asked a lot about is: I’m not having dairy but where am I going to get my calcium? Surely my bones are going to disintegrate and I am going to collapse. Now this is actually one of the biggest myths there is around. A lot of people do not realize that green vegetables, if you are having enough green leafy vegetables, you are going to be getting enormous amount of calcium.

What Your Body Does When It’s Acidic

Now the only issue comes when people are not alkalizing their body. So basically what happens is, when your body becomes acidic – so having processed foods, alcohol, things like that and not actually having things that alkaline your body – what happens is that your body needs to alkalize itself, so it takes away calcium from the bones and glutamine from the muscle. So basically it breaks down your bones and breaks down your muscles. So if you are doing a lot of things that are causing acidity in your body – so long-steady state bouts of cardiovascular exercise, for example, can cause a lot of acidity in your body and like I said eating a lot of processed foods – then your body has to try and find a way to alkalize itself. So to do that, like I said, it breaks down muscle and breaks down bones.

Eating Healthy Whole Foods Can Help Alkalize Your Body

So as long as you are doing everything in your power to try and keep an alkaline body, therefore you are having a lot of green vegetables, you are eating very healthy whole foods, then you are going to find that you are getting more than enough calcium than you require and in fact, it is the fact that you are not actually going to be breaking down your calcium which is the most important thing.

Worry First If You’re Alkaline Enough

So look at your diet, just make sure that you are having enough green vegetables and maybe adding in some lime in your water which can also alkalize your body will be a good idea, but really worry about how alkaline or how acid your body is before worrying about how much dairy you are not having.
