Charly_Brown_Spotlight

Greg:     Hi, this is Greg from the DVCC; I am joined today by Charly Brown. So Charly, how long have you been at the DVCC now?

Charly:  I joined in March of this year.

Greg:     This March, so 6 months. Can you recall what initially brought you to the DVCC?

Charly:  I had an accident 4 years ago and I gained 3.5 *stone in weight. It took me almost 2 years to get over the injury; I wore a cast for 6 months, I wasn’t able to exercise, I didn’t want to exercise. Then I got married in February of this year and I’ve *lost a bit of weight, but I wanted to get the rest of the weight off.

Greg:     Can you expand more on what the accident was and what the injury was?

Charly:  Yes I sleepwalked out of a first floor bedroom window!

Greg:     Oh dear! And what was the injury caused?

Charly:  The injury was a shattered wrist, completely shattered – ligaments, bones…

Greg:     Ouch – that sounds painful.

Charly:  Yes!

Greg:     Since you’ve been at the DVCC, what results have you had?

Charly:  I’ve gained 7 lbs of muscle and *lost 4 lbs of fat.

CharlyGreg:     And had a percentage change of 4% - awesome. So the specific problem that you first wanted to solve when you first came to see us, what was it?

Charly:  The weakness in my wrist.

Greg:     So not being able to exercise due to your wrist?

Charly:  Yes. No pushups, no weights, just a lot of restrictions; all I was really able to do was spinning.

Greg:     So you wanted to get back into more variety of exercise in order to *lose the weight that you had gained?

Charly:  Yes, and obviously change my body shape.

Greg:     To get back to where you were before?

Charly:  Yes.

Greg:     Ok, awesome. What were your main obstacles that you had that prevented you from doing this before? Obviously you’ve mentioned your wrist already.

Charly:  Yes, and confidence. I didn’t have the confidence to exercise because I had put on so much weight and changed. My fitness had gone down massively, I’d always been very active before, and I’d just lost my confidence completely.

Greg:     Had you tried any other gyms and stuff before?

Charly:  Yes, I am a member at two gyms at the moment; one through just a golf membership and the other one was at the place I was spinning at; but I wouldn’t go to the gym, I would just go to the class and that was it.

Greg:     Was that a confidence thing?

Charly:  Yes, I think the confidence and ability; I wasn’t sure what my wrist would tolerate and being on your own in a gym, you’re worried about causing yourself an injury again because you have got no-one to guide you as to what you should or shouldn’t be doing.

Greg:     Ok. Obviously you mentioned spinning, but had you tried any nutritional strategies at all before?

Charly:  No – I stopped eating, trying to *lose weight!

Greg:     So less eating and more spinning?

Charly:  Yes!

Greg:     So what convinced you, when you came to see us, that the Real You transformation process would be different to those?

Charly:  Because I had to eat, and eating was encouraged, as long as it was good eating. And I had seen results; I could see people here that have had the results and it gave me the boost that I needed.

Greg:     Good. So Charly, how has your *life changed since you started the Real You transformation process?

Charly:  Well my husband’s joined, so being able to eat the same diet and exercise together has been probably the best thing that’s happened so far; I don’t feel like I am doing it on my own any more. And with my husband getting results as well, it’s spurring me on because we’re so competitive!

Greg:     So it’s motivating both of you to push yourself even harder!

Charly:  Completely!

Greg:     Good. How has it affected your wrist since you started?

Charly:  I can lift weights, I can do pushups; I’m not at the burpee stage yet, but I think that’s the ultimate goal for me.

New Call-to-action

Greg:     So the ultimate goal is burpees!

Charly:  I’ll be the first person to ever say that!

Greg:     I’ll remember you said that! In terms of outside the gym environment, are there things you can do with your wrist that you couldn’t before?

Charly:  Yes, actually. I can lift pans! Pans with water in, I could never do that before, I would have to use it with my right hand instead of my left hand. Yes, just generally a lot stronger.

Greg:     So just day to day things.

Charly:  Yes, day to day things, things that I wasn’t sure I would be able to do with my left wrist, I would always over compensate with my right arm. But now it’s much better.

Greg:     Awesome, good. Can you give me an example of something that’s happened after the transformation that you thought might not be possible before?

Charly:  I do pushups!

Greg:     Did you not see yourself doing one of those before?

Charly:  No, no! I didn’t even have any range, motion in my wrist. But now I can do pushups.

Greg:     Did you not mention to me before as well, that the surgeon or doctor told you that you wouldn’t?

Charly:  Yes, I think he said at the best I would have 15 degrees.

Greg:     15 degrees, which really isn’t very much.

Charly:  No, I started at 8 after I came out of the cast and now I’m pretty much at 40, maybe?

Greg:     More than 40, I would say – almost full. Any final words for me, Charly?

Charly:  Don’t be shy, don’t be afraid – just do it.

Greg:     Just do it – awesome. Thank you very much for joining me today, Charly.
