See Anthony's Weight Loss Story.. In His Own Words

Case Study, Weight loss

Greg:  Hi this is Greg from the DVCC Northampton; today I’m joined with Anthony Forman. So Ant, how long have you been with the DVCC now?

Anthony:   Since the 8th July.

Greg:  So three months, ok. And in that three month period, what results have you had?

Anthony:  I have *lost approximately 15lbs of body fat and I’ve gained about 7lbs of muscle.

Greg:  Nice, so obviously your body fat percentage has come down a lot?

Anthony:  Yes, by about 7%.

Greg:  Awesome. How do you feel?

Anthony:  I feel really good; a lot more confident in myself, I just feel more enthusiastic towards the future. I’m more knowledgeable about nutrition; I’m more capable in the gym here, training with you guys, I’m finding it really enjoyable; and when I’m at home with the family it just feels good.

Greg:  Good. Can you recall what initially brought you to the DVCC?

Anthony:   My reflection in the mirror!

Greg:   So you weren’t happy with what you saw?

Anthony:   No, not at all. Just basically, it’s been going on for a number of years where I’ve had peaks and troughs, every Christmas you get to that regretful stage, of looking at how I look and everything; and then working hard to try and change that but nothing ever comes off or works. It works for a couple of weeks or something but then it just goes downhill again, so I needed to make a drastic change and I felt that this was a great opportunity.

Greg:  So when you say you were looking in the mirror – was it a case of over time you just steadily gained body fat?

Anthony:  Yes, from about the age of 25, I was just too busy drinking and too busy having a good time; not really thinking about the consequences of doing that week in week out.
And not knowing about what kinds of foods are bad for me; I did enjoy certain things which now I know are the kinds to avoid, so it’s more of an education thing now, as opposed to anything else.

Greg:  You mentioned it’s been ongoing since you were 25; how old are you now?

Anthony:  I’m 37

Greg:  So it’s been going on a few years?

Anthony:  It took a while to get there!

Greg:  Had you tried anything previously to try and solve your problem?

Anthony:  I’ve joined gyms, I’ve done things like TRX, I took up cycling… My fitness was ok, it wasn’t really great. What’s changed most really, coming here, as I said to you before, is the education about nutrition. I know exactly what I should be avoiding and what I should be eating. In the past I probably used to starve myself to try and lose weight, whereas you actually have to eat properly, you have to eat more, but more of the right things

Greg:  So it sounds as though you always played around with exercise, but I remember when you first came in that nutrition was something you wanted to learn about wasn’t it? You just touched upon there, not eating; had you tried any other nutritional strategies at all?

Anthony:  It depends how you look at it; like Slimming World type of stuff, the Weight Watchers things have been touched on; Slimming World, reds and green days when you can only eat meats one day and carbohydrates the next day; if I look at it now I think what a load of rubbish, it just doesn’t make any sense.

Whereas eating, first of all the MDS: the first 2 weeks or the first month, that was a real shock to the system, but afterwards it really helped you understand how food affects your body, and since then I’ve actually been a lot more disciplined towards food. So going this way I felt, has been the best thing I’ve ever done.

New Call-to-action

Greg:  So you’ve built in those good habits from the MDS and it’s carried on through?

Anthony:  Absolutely; and it scared me as well – because it’s a scaring tactic, where you look at bad food and it’s like looking at a packet of cigarettes or something, it’s like I’m not going to touch that ever again!

Greg:  You get to the point where you start feeling guilty if you eat something bad?

Anthony:  Oh yes – I’ve just come back from Brazil and the fact that I couldn’t have what I am supposed to be having 24/7 gave me the shakes! As soon as I got back it was straight to the fridge and pulled out some mackerel and felt good again.

Greg:  Good. So what convinced you that the Real You Transformation Process would be different?

Anthony:  At the start I was quite apprehensive about the whole thing; thinking it was a big commitment, it was a long commitment; but after about a month when I saw the results I thought I can’t stop this. It convinced me then as opposed to at the start.

Greg:   So the actual results you had?

Anthony:   Yes, you have to believe what you see; you’ve got to imagine what you want to be; if you can do that and stick to it, you’ll get there.

Greg:   Cool. Could you give me an example of anything that’s happened that you thought may not have been possible before? For example, I remember you mentioning a pair of jeans you managed to fit into.

Anthony:   I know it’s a joke on social media, but I actually own a pair of jeans I bought when I was about 22, so they’re quite old.

Greg:   So you’re going back about 15 years?

Anthony:   Yes, they were my first pair of Levis and they were a good size, shall we say. And I’ve always wanted to get back into them and only the last three weeks I have; so it’s been one of the goals I’ve had. Next thing is to go down another level or two; maybe different types of t-shirts, different types of fits, different cut of suits, those are the kinds of things that will make me feel good.

Greg:   I’m guessing you haven’t got any clothes older than 15 years to fit into?

Anthony:   Only a pair of underpants!

Greg:   Any final words for me, Ant?

Anthony:   I just want to say that I want to thank you and the team for helping me get to where I am today; still a long way to go. My next milestone is at Christmas, where I hope to lose another 14lbs of body fat and I think at that point I’ll start to realise exactly what my potential is.

And I think for anyone who is interested in doing something similar, you’ve got to trust these guys; they know what they’re doing, they know what they’re talking about and if you’re afraid of joining a gym, or a group like this, don’t be because it’s a lot of fun – no-one judges you, no-one looks down on you or anything like that; it’s all about encouragement.

Greg:   Thank you. So thanks for joining me today, Ant. If you’ve been listening to this spotlight interview and would like to find out more about how the DVCC can help you, then please book an appointment for a DVCC Right Fit phone call at www.theDVCC.com/signup
