The question of the week has been asked by Jonny: What type of meat should I consume most often?

The simple answer is you should eat a whole variety of meats. But if you delve a little deeper there is a lot of things when buying and consuming meat that you want to look out for.

16A-processed-meat-Fotolia_2022780_MFirst of all, like most things, with meat you get what you pay for. This being said i would avoid eating factory raised and processed meats completely if possible.

There will be many reasons why some meat in super markets is cheaper than the rest. Many large chain supermarkets and butchers are more concerned about their profits and less concerned about the health of the consumer of the products which they produce.

Animals will be fed and fattened with foods that they wouldn't naturally consume. This can consist of grains and even other animal off cuts.

When animals consume these food sources they become ill. The farmers or owners of the livestock will then inject their livestock with antibiotics to keep the animal alive for long enough for it to continue to grow.

This causes the animal considerable stress which will cause problems with their hormonal balance.

When that animal is cooked and consumed, the consumer will not only be eating the meat the livestock produced, but also all of the antibiotics which have been repeatedly injected into it, not to mention all the hormones which have been produced by a unnatural diet for that particular animal. This is not what you want at all! Its important when possible to always buy the highest quality meat.

Don't be afraid to ask your butcher if their meat is grass fed. Always look for grass fed and organic meat. Raw-Meat-1 The difference in quality in terms of taste is unbelievable and it is so much more healthy.

Try to include grass fed, organic or wild meat in your meals especially for breakfast to help you to lose weight and stay as healthy as possible.

In terms of eating certain types of meat to often, try not to over eat red meat. Eating red meat 2/3 times per week, which is grass fed and has been looked after in the correct manner should not have any long term health risks attached to it.

Red meat can be quite acidic, so its important to consume lots of alkalising green vegetables with your red meat. Not only will this help you alkalise but green leafy veg will also work wonders for your weight loss results.

Chicken can be eaten fairly regularly, again make sure that you are consuming high quality produce though.
Include wild fish in your diet and aim for eating 1 portion of oily fish and 2 non oily fish per week.

The question of the week is what type of meat is your favourite?

As always guys, If you have any questions please leave them in the comment section below and we will answer it in the future. Until next time, this is Nathan at DVCC Have a great day.
