Today we have a question from Jenny.

Jenny asked, “How can I boost my metabolism?”

Great question Jenny, thanks for asking.

First of all, you need to increase the amount of protein you eat; try to consume protein with all meals.

Protein will help keep you feeling fuller for longer and will also increase the amount of calories which you burn at rest.

If you are training with resistance, protein will also help to build muscle. The more muscle you have, the faster you will burn body fat.

Weight training and HIIT training, otherwise known as high intensity interval training, are a great way to increase your metabolism. People often think that cardiovascular work will allow for a higher calorie burn and therefore superior fat loss. In truth, it is not so much the calories you burn during exercise which are important for fat loss, it is the calories you burn afterwards.

After doing a long bout of cardio and your heart rate returns to normal, your calorific burn will reduce; if you compare that to the calorific burn of doing some resistance training, you will find that the body burns calories at an elevated level for up to 48 hours after that session.

Drinking green tea on a regular basis will not only allow you to detoxify but will also help you boost your metabolism and burn extra calories. Scientific research shows that drinking green tea on a regular basis can help to burn 3-4% more calories a day.

This is Nathan from the DVCC; have a healthy day.
