Are You Sleeping Enough?

Fitness, People of the DVCC

How was your sleep last night?

As I’m sure you’re aware, sleep is vital to our recovery and overall performance inside and outside the gym. Often however, just because we know something, doesn’t mean we abide by it all the time.

It can be all to easy to stick another episode on, and then another, and before you know it it’s gone midnight!

The good news is as we age, we actually require LESS sleep than when we were younger. Believe it or not, the moping teenager does ACTUALLY need more sleep than you.

But, this doesn’t make you immune to the effects of not sleeping enough. The perfect number of hours varies, but between 6 – 8 hours is the sweet spot. I’ll save the topic of sleep quality and how to improve this for another time but that is the twin sister to length of sleep and plays an equally important role.

For now, focus on being in bed in time to allow for 6 – 8 hours of good sleep. The best way to achieve this is with routine. Be consistent with when you go to bed and get up in the morning. Plan ahead how much sleep you need against when you need to be up in the morning. You’ll fall into the rhythm and it’ll become infinitely easier to maintain.

Try prioritising your sleep this week, see if you notice a difference!

Do you feel intimidated by normal gyms?

The big box impersonal gyms leave you feeling awkward, and lacking motivation to lose weight and get fit.

The DVCC is for men and women who want to lose weight, get fit but don't want to do it in a normal big box gym.

We know it's important. We just don't know where to start.
