Coca Cola Is Worse Than Cocaine?

Health, Sugar, Supplements

Surely not. That was the statement I heard from a top nutrition specialist when I was at a specialist conference in America.

Its a bold statement, we all know if you want to lose weight then drinking Coke is bad for your but why do some clients of DVCC struggle to kick the habit?

Coke is a drug

Coke was invented in 1886 by a Civil War veteran, at one time Coca-Cola contained the drug cocaine until it was removed in 1906 and banned by law in 1914. In fact, the “Coca” part of Coca-Cola’s name is actually an abbreviation for cocaine.

So if it doesn't contain cocaine any more, how is it still so addictive?

The answer is Caffeine and sugar, these two substances

combine to make you crave the dark nectar more and more.

Caffeine is a known stimulant more often associated with espressos and coffee, sugar however is the subtle sidekick in the addictive combination.

We know that consuming excess amounts of sugar is bad for us, but we don't reference that a 10 oz drink of Coca Cola contains on average 10 teaspoons of sugar!

The list of ailments associated with sugar intake is endless and we're taught from a young age that it rots the teeth, causes weight gain, lethargy, diabetes and heart problems, yet sales of table sugar (white sugar) have decreased while the sales of sugary drinks is on the increase.

This nutritionist claimed we are primed to crave sugar on an instinctive level as it is connected to our basic desire for survival, it means that our bodies have evolved to desire the molecules necessary to live like salt, fat and now sugar.

So can we kick sugar to the curb completely?

Probably not as it continues to be almost impossible to avoid on a daily basis. However drinking coke daily is a slippery slope to addiction and weight gain.

Check out this short video where I demonstrate the amount of sugar in coke..Its quite shocking!
