Chris And Amanda's experience at the DVCC: "Coming together just means we are constantly trying to achieve more!"

Amanda Burns, 53 and Chris Baker, 46 both work in local government, where they first met over 20 years ago.

The couple now attend all their DVCC classes together and use their sessions to spend more time together, whilst also getting fitter at the same time! They find that by working out as a pair, they are able to encourage one another to go that little bit further, even if it does make things a little competitive at times! 😉

 

 

Chris: “I’m Chris, I'm 46 and I work in local government”

Amanda: “and I'm Amanda, in 53 and I also work in local government.

C: “We were actually both working at the same council at the time and just kind of met through there…”

A: “Twenty years ago!”

A: “Chris had said he wasn't happy with his weight and his level of fitness so I thought that getting fit would be a good way of staving off the years so to speak I thought I'd come along and keep him company. I think we do sort of jig each other on, especially me, I'll say "Oh put another kilogram on, put another two kilograms on!” But it just means we are
constantly trying to achieve more.”

C: “Also it does make sure that we do, that we both keep coming as well maybe if one of us was going, "Oh I'm not really sure if I want to” Then we say yeah, but this is the thing we do and we go off and do it together. So I think, yeah it helps keep me motivated.”

C: “Six months on, I've lost about a stone and a half since when I started. I can feel that all of my clothes now are much looser as well and I feel, yeah I'm starting to feel much more comfortable with my body and how I am and things like that as well.”

A: “They do push you to achieve your potential, and your potential keeps changing. As you lift heavier weights and cando things better, they will keep pushing you. I think the 30 day trial is the best way of doing things, you can give it a go, with no pressure and you can really, within that time I think you can find whether this is the thing for you and we did.”

C: “Yeah, I mean in our case it was a thing that would fit in with us and would help us make a kind of lifestyle change as well as everything else to keep us fitter and happier.”
