This is me at work (and play!). I head up the legal team in the UK for a Global company and many people want a piece of me, all of the time. I routinely work ten-hour days and frequently at the weekend too.

I joined DVCC in January 2016 for a short trial. At that time, like many people, I was a member of a gym that I never managed to go to and on day a friend recommended trying DVCC. How would I find time for the gym?? But I needed to do something, anything. I was the heaviest I'd ever been, working long hours in a stressful job, I smoke, I drink and I am in my late 40s - probably heading for a serious health episode of some description.

So, in January last year, for a short while, I decided to make an appointment, one that I would not be prepared to miss, with myself. I decided that in any 24 hour period I was worth 50 minutes a day, just for me.

I was resolute. I planned my training quite late in the evening and if it looked like I might be delayed at work, I explained that I had an appointment and excused myself. In truth, only very rarely can "things" absolutely not wait until later on or the next day......

My "trial period" at DVCC saw me turn up in the baggiest clothes ever and really quite nervous; massively out of my comfort zone. However, I was warmly greeted, made to feel at ease and then, after some familiarisation, I got straight into the training session. It was hard (at times very hard!) but I enjoyed it. I didn't have to think, to be "in charge" or make decisions. All I had to do was step in the door and the trainers took care of the rest. The trainers are, by the way, nothing short of excellent; great people, superbly trained and super-attentive.

So, that trial session turned into membership and here I am, 55lb lighter; I am better at my job, I am happier, I am healthier and I am doing "stuff" - mud runs, climbing mountains, canoeing, surfing, sailing ....... Just to reassure you, I have not turned into a health geek and I am no saint; I eat sensibly between 80-90% of the time and I still drink!

I committed 50 minutes in each 24 hour day to myself, my body and my mind, because I owe it to myself. All I have to do is keep turning up and trying hard, DVCC keep doing the rest.

Do you feel intimidated by normal gyms?

The big box impersonal gyms leave you feeling awkward, and lacking motivation to lose weight and get fit.

The Training Gyms is for men and women who want to lose weight, get fit but don't want to do it in a normal big box gym.

We know it's important. We just don't know where to start.
