Is breakfast the most important meal of the day?

We all lead busy lives...and the mornings are no exception!

Whether it is getting the kids ready for school (and driving them there), the long commutes to the office or trying to fit a workout in the morning, sometimes the last thing on your mind might be what you are having for breakfast!

But how important is breakfast for setting up the rest of your day?

We all know the old saying that breakfast is the most important meal of the day…and on this occasion, it is true!

Why is breakfast important?

Breakfast is important for all kinds of reasons. For example if you are looking for fat loss and muscle gain, a healthy, balanced breakfast will help set your body up for the day a head better than any coffee or energy drink!

There are a few reasons for this:

Firstly, your breakfast helps set up your hormones for the day ahead and regulates your metabolism correctly for fat loss. A great rule of thumb for what constitutes a good breakfast is to ideally include: A low carb, high fat and high protein breakfast every day.

A few examples of this might be: Salmon and eggs or eggs and avocado.

The easy option that many people turn to in the mornings is obviously cereals. They’re quick, easy, and tasty! It can seem like a no brainer on those busy mornings…

BUT…Here’s the main difference.

A breakfast which contains the carb, fat and protein will allow your blood sugar levels to rise and fall a lot slower than a bowl of Cocopops or Frosties will. These cereals are full of sugars, which your body will use for fuel instead of fat, which will not be doing anything for your weight loss journey!

Having a high fat and high protein breakfast will also keep you feeling fuller for longer as it will take longer to digest than the quick carbs found in cereals.

Even if you are stuck for time and want to eat, a protein shake with a handful of nuts is a far better choice than grabbing a quick snack or not eating anything at all!
