9 Reasons to be Cheerful this January

Health, Nutrition, Weight loss, Goals

beautiful-19305_640-1.jpgWith British Rail pushing up the prices of train travel, the English weather being damp and miserable and the extra weight accumulated over Christmas making your trousers feel tight, January isn’t everyone’s favourite month of the year.

If you’re finding yourself in need of a few reasons to be cheerful, then just remember that:

  1. The Hassle of Christmas And New Year Are Over – Thank the Lord, the family feuds are finished, the Brussel sprouts that you try hard every year to like have been binned, and your relatives are back safely where they should be. While there will probably always be some annoying Facebook comment saying “only 299 days till Christmas” – don’t worry. You’re as far away from it now as possible.
  2. New Year, New Start – Remember all those resolutions that you set for yourself last month? The time for excuses has passed. Now’s the moment to get off the sofa, put on your trainers and kick-start those areas of your life that have been on pause for too long.
  3. jskl-620x400.pngThe Days Are Getting Longer – OK, OK, so maybe not noticeably so just yet but, although it might feel like we’re in the bleak midst winter, the shortest day is behind us and soon you’ll start to see the days stretching out just a wee bit longer and the promise of spring around the corner.
  4. You Have a Good Reason Not to Socialise – Tired of parties and skint after the festivities? The great news is that January gives you a veritable treasure trove of excellent excuses not to go to the pub, disco, or your nephew’s piano recital. From money troubles to alcohol abstaining, just pick your favourite one.
  5. Set Your Fitness Plan into Action – While this may not convince you at first as being a reason to love January, making a commitment to improve your health, body and fitness is the best gift you can ever give yourself. So instead of commiserating an end to watching reruns on the tele, you should celebrate the fact that you’re on your way to a healthier heart, flatter stomach, better sleep and stronger muscles.
  6. weight-loss_7.jpgSet Your Health Plan into Action – Again, while at first it may be hard to give up the unhealthy habits you picked up in December; eating chocolate, drinking wine, over-indulging on Christmas pudding... incorporating new and healthy eating habits into your lifestyle is liberating and your body will thank you for it.
  7. You’re Officially Shopped Out – No more spending; you’re so sick of the sight of the shops, that you can actually hold back this month from all those unnecessary purchases.
  8. New Series on TV – Yay for January! Forget about the cold and the dark, when you’ve got the latest episodes of The Black List and newest season of Bones on TV, who needs more good reasons to stay inside and out of the cold?
  9. No More Christmas Songs – Finally you can walk in the street, turn on the radio and live your life without having to grind your teeth through yet another Boney M remix…

See? January’s not so bad after all! Happy New Year from The DVCC!
