Watching the clock while yawning and counting down the minutes?

While it’s true that regular exercise is a great way to boost your energy and concentration, there are also certain superfoods that can help you feel stronger, healthier and even younger.

Read on to find out more…

  1. Tomatoes – men should be especially interested by the fact that this delicious juicy salad complement contains high levels of lycopene, a red carotene that can protect against many forms of cancers, but most especially, prostate cancer. If you’re not a huge fan of raw tomatoes you can still get your dosage in sun dried tomatoes or tomato sauce, just opt for the fresh kind.
  2. Broccoli – this powerful leafy veggie is high in detoxifying chemicals and helps clean out your system as well as prevent certain types of cancer. It also delivers a decent dosage of vitamin C and can boost your immune system. Make sure you don’t over-cook it though, as you can boil out the nutrients.
  3. Wine wine.jpg– OK, while this is generally agreed to be off limits while on a weight loss programme, or implementing healthy habits into your life, a glass of wine every now and again, in moderation, can help your heart stay healthy. Red wine contains resveratrol, a compound that’s not only good for your heart, but may even activate genes that slow cellular aging. A glass. Not a bottle.
  4. Eggs – Not only are eggs the perfect way to wake up in the morning, but this high protein food strengthens bones and releases energy slowly throughout the day. They can also be good for your eyesight.
  5. Yogurt – Packed with calcium for healthy bones, yogurt contains phosphorus which boosts tooth enamel and can even reduce skin wrinkling and help combat osteoporosis. Another benefit of yogurt is that its “good bacteria” can help maintain a healthy gut.
  6. Peppers – red, green, and every colour in between, peppers are full of antioxidants that can boost immune function and deliver high doses of vitamins A and C. They also have high antioxidant properties and can even alleviate asthma.
  7. Sweet potatoes yams-vs-sweet-potatoes3.jpg – not only do they contain anti-inflammatory agents and numerous vitamins, but they’re a great source of complex carbs that can replace potato fries and buns with your cheat meal burger.
  8. Beetroot – this humble root vegetable can help the dilation of blood vessels, which improves blood flow. It also delivers a good source of iron, and helps deliver oxygen through your body.
  9. Blueberries – This superfood may have the power to fight tumours as well as detoxify the body. Fresh, baked, mixed in a shake. Make sure you include them in your diet.
  10. Carrots – ever heard your Grandmother say that carrots help you to see in the dark? While that might be a bold claim, carrots do feature beta-carotene that helps with skin-cell renewal and with your retinas, maintaining healthy eyes and skin.
