How was your nutrition before you started at the DVCC?

Poor! Because I work nights it was very hard to get in a routine where food is concerned. So it goes in little stages, where you'll get very prepared and get everything sorted to just going to the petrol station or getting something on the way in or just quickly grabbing stuff.

How has the 12 week nutrition intensive helped you?

It's been really good! It's quite eye-opening. Like I say, it just takes it back to basics like keeping a diary and just making you aware of what you're actually are eating has been quite good. I did try one of the other courses and because it's an online one, you don't sort of stick to it too well. It's sort of easy to say, "Oh, I'll miss a day." Whereas with this one it's sort of... you feel accountable.

How has nutrition helped you with your training?

I've got more energy, now because I've got it quite organised, it fits in quite well now. It's like having a routine so you're just going along and it's almost like the final box to tick, to get it all in order.

What does the 1:1 accountability do for you?

It makes me do it! I did try the one online and I was really good for 3-4 months, but you miss one, then you miss two then you miss the week, then you've got the month to catch up with. Whereas if you know you're coming every week, so you've got everything there, you've got someone to talk to, if you are having issues, he's on the end of the phone. Whereas before if was all email and online and easy to stray from.

How has your mindset and attitude to food changed?

It's made me a lot more conscious of what I am eating. Not to say it gives you a guilt trip, but when you go for the not so good choices, it makes you think about them, question them and then you go, "Don't really want them." It's only been four weeks now and I'm really noticing the difference.
