How was your nutrition before you started at the DVCC?

It was quite mixed. I was quite good generally, you know, water, good vegetables and fruits in my diet. But also quite bad because while having takeaways, and not the best things with nutrition, not looking after myself I was very conscious of it because I got warnings from my doctor about cholesterol and things so thats why I think I had to look at changing my nutrition, as part of my training here.

How has the 12 week nutrition intensive helped you?

It’s been very good in the sense that I’ve got a good pattern to what I do with my nutrition, but it’s something I focus on with Sam in each of the meetings. Also if I have any questions with especially things like smart carbs and things like that where I’m not as aware of and I can get information which has been really good to have. So it did help over the 12 weeks, and actually improved my nutrition levels and what I was taking in my diet and making sure it’s balanced, rather than focusing on one group or the other.

How has nutrition helped you with your training?

It’s great. My recovery is a lot better, I’m getting stronger with it and I feel leaner. It’s been a big benefit, nutrition adding on top of the training because it was a bit of a problem losing the last little bits of fat in my first year and it’s now come off, the nutrition has really helped.

What does the 1:1 accountability do for you?

It’s good to be able to get answers to questions that you’ve got around your head, throughout the week. When you’re doing the training, you’re doing nutrition and then you start to think, “Well I’ve eaten this, is this the right on to have? is it the wrong one to have?” So just having that 1:1 and being able to sit down and get the answers you need, has been really good.

How has your mindset and attitude to food changed?

It has indeed, yes. I’ve been getting into the habit now of preparing food on a weekly basis. Good healthy diet, not 100% healthy diet. I do have the occasional days where you don’t stick to your diet properly. It’s not really a diet actually, it’s just healthy eating. So that goes through the whole household now so whenever I cook, everyone eats. So it’s been a big benefit.
