I remember getting up early and running downstairs with my brother to watch morning television, just because we wanted to catch the He-Man! Funnily enough by the time my mother was awake we always wanted to eat some new cereal or have a new toy...The reason? Advertising!

bad_cerealI am often asked what is the best breakfast to eat for weight loss (and in fact to live longer)? The answer is NOT cereal!!

The reason we are all programmed to eat frosties (and now oats) is advertising. Are you a little annoyed that we have let the advertisers dictate what you and your family should eat? I sure am!

Cereals are one of the main reasons we as a nation are getting fatter and unhealthier. Why diabities is on the rise and why there are now children who physically can't get out of bed. So if you want to lose weight and be healthier eat a protein and fat breakfast.

 

The Protein & Fat Breakfast

Did you know that what you eat for breakfast sets up your entire neurotransmitter production for the day? (Thats how your brain functions).

Thats why when you eat this type of breakfast your brain funciton and productivity is far enhanced compared to a bowl of sugar puffs. I mean come one, even the name gives it away. How can we all have been so silly!?

We have been conditioned for so many years that we should eat breakfast for breakfast that we have never tried anything else, but tomorrow try this: Feed one of your children cereal for breakfast and the other salmon with eggs and see who is the better behaved and more active (in a good - non hyper way!).

Why Eat Protein?

Protein is a building block of all cells throughout the body. It is necessary for healthy skin, nails, muscles, salmon_and_eggscartilage and blood to name a few. Not only does Protein help to build and repar bodily tissues, it is also used to produce hormones and enzymes. Apart from the obvious energy increase (give it 5 days I promise you will feel the difference) you are also more likely to feel full longer, which can lead to healthier eating habits and possibly even weight loss.

What Protein?

Eggs have had a bad reputation for a while because of their fat content. I know when I was a child I was told not to eat too many eggs "because of the fat". However you have been lied to!

Only a portion of their fat comes from saturated fat and studies show that eggs may actually help lower cholesterol, as opposed to raising it as previously believed.

Eggs are a great source of choline, which is essential for a healthy brain and nervous system. Choline also reduces inflammation among those with heart disease, diabetes or osteoporosis. Inflammation is one of the main things that we focus on at The DVCC now as when you reduce it you can speed up people's weight loss dramatically.

Scramble some eggs for your breakfast or make a tasty omelet with your favorite vegetables. Eggs are a great source of protein, so don't be afraid to add them to your menu.

Another great option is salmon (or any white fish). In fact after 5 days of convincing (i say encouraging) my girlfriend to try the salmon and eggs for breakfast she reported to "have far less bloating and a flatter stomach!"

What Fat?

Fat has had a bad reputation for a long time, the issue with this? Not all fat is equal. Would you say that fat from a coconut is as as good/bad for you as fat from a McDonalds burger? It most definately is and fat is needed for all of your sex hormones, and quite simply put if you don't eat enough of it you will not lose weight!

Avacado, macadamea nuts, almonds, cashews, pecans are all great options. Simply have 6-10 nuts with your breakfast or half an avacado. If you eat at 7am you will notice how great you are still feeling even as late as 12pm!

Defy the advertisers and start eating a breakfast that will make you lose weight and feel great!
